  1. I know NIL isn’t supposed to be dependent on the school you attend, but with the money being thrown around I don’t see how the people offering that don’t somehow make it so it is.
  2. Pretty much this. I think a less grumpy (and better dressed) Belichick isn’t a bad comparison. Except Cael has proven it wasn’t just one guy that helped make him great.
  3. Blanc has only been there 4 years (3 tournaments), and technically you can count on zero hands how many lightweights NDSU has had finish in the top 8. They did have Cam Sykora get “2nd team” in 2020. But you can count on 2 fingers how many AA’s they’ve had at all since 2016, and it was Franek and Caliendo this year at 157 and 165. I would bet Blanc works with them, although he does look tiny.
  4. This one just came out a couple weeks ago apparently…not as much wrestling talk, mostly peanut butter
  5. I am by no means a HS scouting expert but I was literally just typing up something similar. Would you put Bouzakis potentially in the same boat? In the limited I saw of him in HS I thought similarly.
  6. Yes, and here are the rest of the favorites: 125: Ayala 133: Teske 141: Woods 149: Siebrecht 165: Kennedy 174: Brands 184: Assad 197: Glazier or whoever Iowa gets from the portal 285: Cassioppi
  7. Was just going to post this. Interestingly this was Woodley’s first twitter post since November 2022
  8. I don't really see how offering NIL money to transfers (if even true of course) qualifies as "helicopter parenting"... How can it be "somewhat worse," but within the rules? LOL. It's nowhere near as bad as the Varsity Blues stuff, which clearly was not within the rules. And honestly I doubt the kid was like "can you get Michigan a 2nd place trophy as my birthday present this year?" They're likely just doing it on their own because they want to support the team. But yes, marginal walk-on athletes with rich parents could be highly sought after commodities. I'd argue they already were in order to solicit donations for the school anyway though. But sure with NIL there is added incentive.
  9. I saw it suggested that it could be coming from Kelly Ripa/Mark Consuelos. Which I guess makes sense. Speaking of I just noticed that Joaquin wrestled in the OSU dual last year and “only” got teched by Sheets, that’s not too bad.
  10. Did Flo try to ask his dad?
  11. Are there many brothers out there competing for different countries than the other?
  12. I was gonna say his twitter still says “OU wrestler” but looks like he doesn’t have any activity since the beginning of last season
  13. I think you could make the argument that the crossface was "the hold used to secure the near-fall criterion." But I understand that there can be debate around that and not sure if there is any more clarity somewhere on situations like that.
  14. For the NCAA currently: https://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/WR23.pdf Rule 4, Section 5, Article 2: ...The referee shall not signal the score for a near fall until the hold used to secure the near-fall criterion is completely released. Clark does release the crossface between each score.
  15. If Michigan gets Griffith and Buchanan or Woodley they'd have to be the favorite for #2 right? And they'd win what, maybe 2 matches vs PSU?
  16. Yes it is. Probably missed calls if they happened like you describe? Those aren’t very recent examples…
  17. I do think it’s odd how there is not much emphasis on pinning in freestyle. But pinning is rewarded by ending the match because it’s more difficult. That’s the whole point of the scoring system and why some moves are worth 4 etc. One turn with a leg lace is only worth 2, so it doesn’t seem right that you can score multiple times without letting go of the same move. I mean this is literally a rule in folkstyle (and apparently used to be a rule in freestyle) so it’s not like this is coming out of nowhere.
  18. Except AWA is now sending guys to PSU…or are you suggesting it’s a Trojan Horse operation?
  19. I think the “Iowa style” was perfect for Desanto honestly. I’m not sure it’s possible for him to train too hard
  20. Overall I think freestyle is more exciting, but it’s definitely not perfect: 1) this issue 2) seemingly arbitrary/rotating shot clocks 3) grounded I’m also not crazy about criteria but I understand the arguments for it
  21. Was there a reason they changed it back?
  22. Comparing to a pin is disingenuous, IMO. Can you? Don’t you need a takedown (or reversal) first?
  23. I don’t hate the move, I hate that you can score 18 points with one move.
  24. What would be the harm in making a rule where you must break a hold in order to score more than once from it? I believe this may have even been a rule in FS at one point?
  25. And Suriano and Fix too?
