Yoshida just beat Snyder in the uww ranking event. 15:25: Arash YOSHIDA (JPN) has done it! He beats Kyle SNYDER (USA) in the semifinals at 97kg. Yoshida, who seems small for 97kg was in all sorts of trouble for five minutes and 30 seconds of the match. The match saw Snyder score a takedown on the edge and as Yoshida was trying to sneak out of the hold, Snyder scored a pushout, all while Yoshida was on activity time. Snyder led 4-C before giving up a stepout. Both wrestler continued the pressure in the second period but Snyder's strength and positioning didn't let Yoshida get his on his attacks. However, Yoshida managed to get a cut-back and a turn to lead 5-5 on criteria with 30 seconds on the clock. Despite Snyder's efforts, Yoshida managed to remain in contact and not get scored on. A stunning win for the Yoshida.

Snyder getting pinned with an elementary move in the finals against Sadulaev was really bizarre. Bruce never had a melt down like that on the international scence. Kyle's best days are over. He too one dimensional. He never improved in par Terre. Did he ever gut wrench anyone?

Never underestimate the heart of a champion.

The talent pool in football is deep. The 15th ranked running back could make the NFL. The 15th ranked wrestler at 133 or whatever weight class will never be recruited by the elite programs. It's night and day difference.

I have no idea on what Basset plans on doing next year, but he should graduate early and enroll at Iowa next year. He is past high school in terms of competition.

I guess Iowa is still tougher and more resilient than okie state. Some things may never change.

I could stream just about meaningful dual meet. I watched penn state vs Michigan at Michigan without any announcers. Just video. Is that option still available. I never said you could stream big tens or NCAAs for free. I'd pay for those events. $40 each. But, there's no way I'm paying flo or any other pay service outrage fees.

It was easier to stream a dual meet 15 years ago. Most of the time it was just video provided by the host school for free. Now, if you don't have cable, satellite, btn or flo, you're out of the loop. Paying $2000 to watch wrestling is just too much. On a side note, I just watched a TV show that has two guys fight in a car. That's on free TV. But, amateur wrestling is pay per view?

He was the only coach who would let Snyder focus on freestyle over folkstyle. That alone, is one of the best coaching decisions in recent wrestling history.

That's my point. I will say that our elite wrestlers are good as ever, obviously. But the sport as a whole is dying. I don't what it to die, but that's my opinion.

Honestly, I have friends who have wrestled in college. None of their sons wrestled for more than a month or so. Straight to basketball or soccer. Their daughters played field hockey with several earning athletic scholarships. Why? Because their youth coaches were infinitely better.

Random thoughts: It's an indication that we don't live in a warrior mindset. Let's face it, wrestling is hard even for the winners. Our country is soft compared to past generations. It's why travel soccer has millions of kids. It's easy and mom can get drunk at the Saturday morning game. Are Notre Dame or Oregon contemplating the reinstatement of their once solid wrestling programs? How about Tennessee or Syracuse?

Where? I live in PA and most of the schools can't field a competitive team. Most of the teams have kids who were cut from basketball or cross country teams. Why? Because you are counting girl folkstyle wrestlers? I guess. If it's so popular, why have we seen so many programs dropped at the D1 level? We used to have over 100 teams. In 10 years we will be lucky to have 25 teams.

First we blamed Title 9. No we are blaming the NIL. Our society is weak in terms of the commitment it requires to wrestle, let alone by an AA. Maybe, we can take a shot at synchronized swimming or gaming? That should definitely wake up the ADs to reinstate Notre Dame and Oregon wrestling.
