Truzzcat U17/U20 open preview and predictions
Truzzcat replied to Truzzcat's topic in International Wrestling
PJ,Bouzakis,Shaw,Robideau all entered at 70kg in the last 24 hours that may be the weight of the tournament for seniors and juniors. -
same situation at 141 as 157 to me I think they have guys that can go in and do fine maybe even low AA, but their true freshman may just be the best option referring to Vega.
-
I think there is a real world where Robideau is there best guy for 157 next year. That kid is really really good I think he gets a little overshadowed by the rest of the 2025 class.
-
I think it is possible Jamison's output increases a lot without having to pull as much weight as he does. I think his strength will likely also translate just looking at Levi this year. If you aren't glycogen depleted for months, you're going to be stronger.

Best to ever beat you (more post-NCAA banter)
Truzzcat replied to jackwebster's topic in College Wrestling
I did not hit puberty until I was going into my senior year, I wrestled Austin at a dual camp in 9th grade and then trent my Sneior year. I wrestled 106,106,126,160. -

Either Austin Desanto or Trent Hidlay... Neither went well for me. -
Who is the King of the Portal so far?

did I miss elam to Iowa? -
U17: 45kg: I think your front runners are Keegan Bassett, Ace Chittum and Kooper Deputy. Chittum just ran rough shot through the journeyman field but Bassett is going to be my pick here. While some may think he had a down year he ended up taking 4th in a tough field at PA states and as evident by him still wrestling 99lbs here was extremely undersized. 48kg: Frontrunners are Chase Karenbauer, Ariah mills, Michael Rundell, Sean Kenny. I am really high on mills and Kenny. I think that Karenbauer has a bit more of a proven track record to this point so he is probably my pick however it is worth noting that Rundell won fargo juniors last year at 100lbs but it was a pretty weak weight. 51kg: This is a fun weight. Schwab boys, Justin Farnsworth, Sammy Sanchez lead the way for me. I am expecting a Sanchez Farnsworth final with Sanchez coming out on top. I think he is one of the most talented kids at u17's which is pretty obvious he is the defending world champ. 55kg: I think some people may see this weight as Paul Kenny next topic. I personally think Grey burnett is going to give him a run for his money. Burnett has a crazy motor to contrast Kennys slickness. I am going to go out on a limb and pick Burnett here but either guy I think has a great shot at gold at worlds. 60kg: I think Myers and Corbin are ahead of the field here and would be a rematch of the fargo semis last year. I am going with Corbin despite falling in that match last year. I feel like he is going to make a lot of noise this off season he seems to be growing into his body and he has always had the skill. 65kg: I would be surprised if Noah Bull did not win this weight he is very very good. He could meet fellow Utah native Austin ellis in the finals. 71kg: This weight is Jayden James next topic but Jayden O farril took 4th at PA states probably 3 weights above where he should be and Eli Esguerra is super tough as well. 80kg: Aaron stewart being u17 eligible still is insane he is going to be a man amongst boys here. I Have not input at 92 or 110 they both seem to be very shallow weights right now as far as who is registered. U20: Ok this is more of my bread and butter 57: This weight is sick. Immediate inclination is to pick Knox but I think Raney can absolute win this. I thought the cut may be too much for him but he is registered for 55kg for greco so I am not as worried about that now. Munaretto I just do not think is there as far as strength and physical maturity goes yet. Kilkeary, Lauridsen, Ramirez seem like the biggest landmines to me. Lauridsen took down and gutted RBY last summer, Ramirez is coming off a great showing at the dapper Dan and Kilkeary is always game. I think knox will have a chip on his shoulder here but I think I am going with a Lauridsen Raney final with Raney coming out on top I dont know call me crazy. 61: This weight is nuts and could get even crazier should Davino and Blaze double dip for juniors and seniors. As of now I think your front runners are Jax,Larkin,Seidel. Jax has wins over both in Folk however I think Larkin is a bit better at Free than he is folk. Jax is still my pick and I will go over seidel I just think he has looked awesome since fargo last year. Kellen wolbert and Sam herring down at 61 will be fun to see Wolbert was all the way up at 150 at points this year. 65: Bassett,Zepeda,Vega,Stanich,Manville,Grajeda,Bouyssou,Perry,Gorman,Ninninger,Askew. This weight is absolutely loaded I am on record that I think Vega can beat Bassett and I thought he was my pick. Then Stanich entered and that really threw me. I am going to take Stanich but any of those 3 guys can absolutely win this weight. Stanich I think holds up in the handfight with bo better than anyone but Vega does some things that just do not make sense. Grajeda I believe is first year u20 eligible and is super super fun to watch so check him out as well. 70: Front runners here to me are Gaj,Miller,Wasilewski,Joy and I think I am going with Melvin. Gaj's style place much better in folk I think. He will let guys in on his legs which may give him trouble here. Joy is coming off of an insane redshirt season but he did not hit any super good guys so I cannot put him ahead of Wasilewski as of yet. Melvin and Joy split last year and while both certainly got better I think Melvin may have improved just a bit more and thats why I am going with him here. Any of those 3 guys I would not be shocked at all if they took it and if PJ double enters then he is the guy. 74: Catrabone,Denny,Millard are the guys to watch for me here. Millard really impressed me this season and I like him more in free than I do catrabone. 79: Brock man that is all 86: Max over Ryder in the finals if Ryder enters. If not Max over Waters but Max by a wide margin 92: light field I will take Sonny sasso 97: Again light field but a winner we should feel good about his medal odds with Rademacher. 125: Crazy weight at the top with Hopke,Mocco,Merrill,Ross I am going with Ross with zero conviction I just think he has gifts that were meant for wrestling with his ability to move and arm length. @Husker_Du let me know what the brain thinks
-
Very irrelevant discussion as he announced he was going to North Carolina but I wonder if this lineup could have won it if PSU were to have an off round or two. 125: Peterson 133: Ayala 141: Bailey 149: Williams 157: Caliendo 165: PK 174: Arnold 184: Ferarri 197: Farrari 285: Keuter Feels like a lineup that had an outside shot at 4 champs and 10 AA's

I think the japanese training regimen is outstanding for results but comes at a cost of guys bodies. I truly cannot think of any Japanese wrestlers that competed into their late 20's early 30's at a high level Takatani would be the closest thing to that.
-
UNC does not have partners for Ryder or AJ I guess Cenzo for Ryder. I love coach Koll and I am sure he will build something great I just do not see in the short term how going there is good for either guy. Anything is probably an improvement from AJ's previous training situation so that seems like a fine landing spot for him but Ryder would really perplex me.

Ben Keuter - wrestling only going forward it seems
Truzzcat replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Iowas head football coach talked about Ben's opportunity with wrestling. It almost gave the vibe like he wants him to pursue that rather than football. -
Bassett/Zepeda/Vega Who do you guys have at the u20 us open
Truzzcat replied to Truzzcat's topic in College Wrestling
finals will be bo1 here bo3 at trials -
If I am the PSU staff I am keeping barr at 184 at least as a possibility even if it is not so that the Mirasolas may feel less compelled to leave. Its a *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*ty thought process but the portal window is very small so you kind of handcuff them a bit.

Bassett/Zepeda/Vega Who do you guys have at the u20 us open

Knox,Raney,Ramirez,Kilkeary and I assume Lilledahl at 57kg will be really fun. Shocked to see Raney registered there thats going to be a pull I would imagine. -
Bassett/Zepeda/Vega Who do you guys have at the u20 us open
Truzzcat replied to Truzzcat's topic in College Wrestling
I agree with that his last two matches with petrovich at regionals and states would have never made me guess he could beat zepeda, but Petrovitch is tough and they were very familiar with each other. I think lehigh definitely got a good one with Van hoven he was shaws only loss during the season. -
Agree my thought was more to keep as much eligibility as possible for when that 2026 class comes but that may just create a log jam.
-
I wonder if they redshirt Swiderski to let young/teague wrestle their senior year since Casey got a medical for this season.

2026 Big Boarders Remaining
Truzzcat replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in High School Wrestling
I am not quite as high on him as I was cody although I have definitely not seen him wrestle as much. Really excited for that weight I think people are going to see Mocco is not quite on that level yet. -
Once grajeda settles into his weight he is going to be a problem. Those monster garage guys are the real deal he had davnio on the ropes at u17's as an 8th grader I believe.
-
I am really excited to see the potential rematch with Basset at u20's I think Bassett beat him 14-12 and had to come from behind but vega was really small for 65kg then.

Legit or Pretender- Arash Yoshida (Japan - 97kg)
Truzzcat replied to Wrasslin's topic in International Wrestling
He was not competitive with Azarpira last year. I think he has grown into 97kg better. He is definitely a contender I just don't know where his ceiling is, not because I don't think he has the talent. If he continues to train in Japan though I have no idea who is going to be able to push him at this point given his size and the lack of depth in Japan at that weight. I would also like to add I think there is a chance that Atimukhans results may have been more of an outlier compared to how good he actually is. -
Sergio is outstanding, if you are not as good as him he is going to kill you. I was pretty surprised when he lost to Mendoza at ironman he just could not get through the head hands and mendoza picked his spots really well to avoid being in on the leg where Vega is comfortable. I think improving in the handfight is probably what he needs the most. I honestly think he has the frame to be a 149 I would assume the future projection for okie state is Jax 141 vega 149 unless they suck Jax down to 133 and go Jax and one of vega and hughes at 141 and 149. I am not sure about the weight allowance at dapper dan because Vega finished the season at 144 which was 146 with the 2lbs.

He was supposed to go visit there and then that got canceled last minute a day or two prior to his commitment. Certainly could not have been money related because PSU does not pay guys so I am not sure what the cause of that was.
