  1. Also, what about that kid from Iowa? What’s his name? You probably know it since you do rankings and such. I think he’s doing some other sport… is it rugby?
  2. Is Snyder not the best example possible? What about fellow 2x world champion and HS 220 and 285 J’Den Cox. What about the other examples provided in this thread? I was simply trying to provide an example other than “hurr durr look at the glaring exception to the rule” in Snyder, but as a 103 did you not feel the same restrictions with regards to next level opportunities?
  3. They said the same thing about women's wrestling and now that is the fastest growing sport. And since my grasp on economics is lacking, do you want to ask how my F list leading technology company is rolling like a Narikuni ankle lace when everyone else looks like Zain during this downturn?
  4. And I'm seriously saying that if you give more opportunities then more positions will open up. I'm not trying to fight but I am fighting for what I believe in. I don't care about the 4th string D3 149 pounder. I do care about losing a varsity 220 D1 because we are too worried about current numbers instead of future potential. Call it, ahem, INCLUSIVENESS.
  5. Steve-sun or Steve-un-sun
  6. Soooo are you going to open the betting so I can get in before the line moves?
  7. I'm saying add more between 197 and 285. It is my opinion that the above logic is not seeing the forest for the trees. Fewer opportunities = lower participation from a prospect group. If this were a business case, I would say there is an unrepresented group and there is an easy solution to fill a gap with a 5x growth potential.
  8. If I knew that I wouldn't be getting a football scholarship because I'm not big or fast enough or plain old good enough, but there was a viable alternative in wrestling what do you think I would pursue? As an example, John Wise spent his freshman year at the world-reknowned perennial football powerhouse Western Illinois. Then he transferred to Illinois where he became an all-american heavyweight. He wrestled 215 in high school, then bulked up his senior year because there were football scholarships to a number of schools but none for wrestling. Why? Because he was too big for 197 and too small for 285 according to coaches, and a scholarship is a scholarship so he went the football route because that was his only option. If he had a wrestling option perhaps he would have made a different decision.
  9. But that is my point. There are fewer opportunities of advancement, so fewer heavier athletes compete. It's a snake biting its tail.
  10. pssst... I took the world FS weights and rounded up to the next pound.
  11. Off the top of my head in addition to those you listed I can think of Jacob Warner, Thomas Penola, Lucas Davison, both Elam brothers, Truax, Christian Carrol (incoming), Pete Christiansen (will possibly never make a varsity start at Wisconsin). Anthony Cassar, Jacob Kasper, Ty Walz, and Derek White are other recent high success contemporaries
  12. Reminds me of Bo Nickal shit talking without the Gorrarian dominance
  13. 126-135-144-155-164-175-190-203-214-285 If the tweeners don't like it then they can just cut harder or lift more. That's what the tweeners of today are always told. Sincerely, Too big for 197 / too small for 285 who is tired of hearing "no 220er competes after HS" like yeah no shit it's because there is no point except for the blue chip elite so why waste the few precious years of my youth. If you give opportunities you would be shocked to see increased results.
  14. I swear to god whoever calls Waste Management and gets this thread shut down, just when we are FINALLY hitting our stride all the way down on page 6 is going to meet up behind the monkey bars after school
  15. The simple solution (on paper) is to blow up the NCAA and pursue the sports academy route used most notably in Euro football. A person focuses either on academics or sport. If sport, they receive $ and can fully focus their efforts on sport. If academics, they fully focus their efforts on upper/secondary school. There is no overlap, there is no redshirt, there is only the chosen focus. Death to the NCAA... but it may mean death to ours and many other olympic sports if it comes to fruition.
  16. Carl met a professor at PSU teaching a weird offshoot of common core math. It's a really weird concept where the premise is that 5 champs is worth more points than 10 qualifiers. I don't understand it either and when I tried to help my kid with his homework the teacher gave me an F Also, Carl has a really good 125. He just happened to exhaust his NCAA eligibility at Iowa.
  17. You came out guns blazing and said "Most kids are getting at least a year of college credits while in HS if not two." If that were the case then shouldn't most college students only spend two years obtaining their bachelors degree? That was my absurdist take and I find my premise valid.
  18. Sometimes people change their major and that requires more time based on the current structure of higher education. I was student teaching and realized that wasn't my career path, and not all credits I had earned to that point counted towards my much more generic business degree. Also, not every kid takes a freshman year's worth of AP classes, much less "most" - that is a patently absurd take.
  19. Shh just let me enjoy this. It’s been a very long fall from grace. and yes you are very correct.
  20. Early signature win sticking returning AA Hoffman
  21. Kendall Coleman is going to break the Purdue streak this year
  22. Glad you're here to double the number of Illini fans on the board and glad to see you getting more exposure. Pretty sure you're the only person that still posts on IM besides Tamillow when he gets weird. I hope this place has South Park fans
  23. Carr 9-4 and I would gladly partake with anyone who would like to have a friendly wager who thinks Carr doesn't cover and hit the over from @FD1W lines
  24. They lost Copass to Purdue, but do you see Amos beating out Christensen? He would be the starter at so many other schools and it's awesome he chose the path he wanted but it's a real shame we didn't get to see him compete 4 years.
  25. hey @Spladle08 glad to see you here. One thing that always bothered me was a particular thread where you harassed me nonstop and made it REALLY uncomfortable. Let's not do that again because you're cool and that was super weird considering same team and such. Anyways, see you at the cookout this summer #iykyk
