  1. JB has been around a long time and just won a tough tourney - not sure what we have seen with him has been a downfall. more like suprising longevity true that Dake is beast and may be at or near his peak
  2. he who has the NIL $ would control if it is a multisport pot or sport-specific - pretty sure both are out there
  3. No - there are no good ideas here
  4. sounds right - but credit to Iowa State as it is not easy to chase an in state rival like Iowa wrestling. Both of these are strong national programs!
  5. both solid programs!
  6. Doubtful that the NCAA or schools have the legal authority to limit NIL this way, even if it would be good for the sport overall. The legal analysis is based on the individial NIL rights of the athlete rather than the health of NCAA competition among programs and leagues. Compete with the big dogs or expect to get your ass kicked. No whining.
  7. I should have said "monetize their name, image and likeness (earned by their skills and time). It is true that there may be violations of NIL standards for more straightforward pay to play, but that is a case by case basis and I (and probably we here on this board) do not have the data.
  8. The wrestlers who are getting NIL rather than have to work and take out college loans do not think it sucks.
  9. Mark me down as extremely skeptical of wrestling fan criticism of the academic integrity of undergraduate programs from Ivy league schools or grad programs of B1G schools.
  10. Easy to fling anonymous internet rumors on poaching, but there is at least as much evidence that there are certain magnet programs who attract transfers with overall program assets and attributes such as coaching, quality workout partners, campus and program culture, and overal program assets (including NIL). Programs and their supporters must compete or get whupped. No whining.
  11. There is no real $$ in NCAA wrestling for the coaches or the fans - that is reserved for basketball and football. Fans do a disservice to criticize wrestlers and coaches on their financial motives. Everyone is entitled to monetize their skills and time, however modest the amounts at issue.
  12. I am no Cornell fan - but all of Cornell's schools are outstanding. The wrestling fan rag on Cornell and its Ag school is nonsense.
  13. NCAA did not want NIL, courts have ordered that NIL be permitted because they are valuable economic rights of the athletes that cannot be monetized by the programs. Mostly a basketball and football thing - but the same legal rights prevail in other lesser or nonrevenue sports.
  14. Jason had a pretty good EIWA/IVY rivalry with a good Brown wrestler
  15. also no inside info - I wonder if we could see new guys push for spot in the lineup, such as Almeyda 133/141, Dunnigan 141/149, Hauserman 141/149, Troczynski 149/157. this lineup seems like a pretty good guess
  16. Portal and NIL are good for the athletes accomplished/talented enough to benefit economically. Not easy to measure if it is good for the health and vitality of NCAA mens wrestling overall.
  17. He is good and most programs would have a roster spot
  18. Dubious that this would be lawful - pricefixing conspiracy limiting compensation to the athletes that have NIL property rights. Letting schools determine the value is inhrently anti-competitive - athletes will earn less than the NIKL market.
  19. TB = Terrell Barraclough Is it correct that he's got one more year of NCAA eligibility and intends to be at PSU?
  20. Anyone know if Cardenas at 197 is interested in PSU? He is graduating from Cornell and needs a new team as no Ivy graduate school athletes permitted. Does he have to enter the portal as a graduate student or does graduation set him free? I think I remember another Cornell upperweight or two finding their way South to State College.
  21. Is this true or even truthy? Maybe he is going Dake and will wrestle 174, 184, and 197 in final year?
  22. Good idea to up the number of wrestlers w NCAA titles. Maybe ditch Hamitti for Carr and get 100% Jesus bonus NCAA eligibility as part of an NCAA-Wrestling Faith Community initiative?
  23. Beast, however this works out - this team will be contenders next year!
  24. winters a little shorter and warmer - so maybe language barriers not too bad on a net basis!
  25. Andy Matter was so dominant in his day that he was known as "the great Andy Matter" - so I've been told by wrestling fans from that era. Definitely would add him to the list - Abe is close too.
