  1. I haven’t watched this yet but just came across “Stand Up” while trying to look up anything I may have forgot. Two senior rivals and friends try to get a PA state title Also found “For the Love of Catch” which again I haven’t seen yet. Sounds like it interviews several former wrestlers to get stories from their past. Looks like some post college career MMA also thrown in there too
  2. Obviously Flo has put out a ton of solid documentaries over the past several years that are worth a watch.
  3. I highly recommend “Boy with Broken Ears” even if you have to read the subtitles. It’s about the Iran youth wrestling program. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3595394/
  4. “Prince of Pennsylvania” and “Team Foxcatxher” if you want a documentary about the Schultz brothers and the Foxcatxher issues. “Wrestle Away” the Lee Kemp story. “The Season” ESPN show about Iowa University that most everyone knows.
  5. “Wrestling with Iowa” about the next round of potential 4x Iowa HS State Champs https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3335458/
  6. We really just need to compile a list of all wrestling related movies and documentaries and pin it someplace for future reference. While I’m on a roll of the lesser famous documenteies: “Shot in the Dark” about a blind wrestler trying to compete at state. “Zion” about a wrestler trying to compete that doesn’t have any legs.
  7. “Pinned” which mostly focuses on the Palmer Brothers was solid. As well as “Wrestling with Life” about Dave Norwick sticking with coaching to continue the dream of his brother who died of cancer
  8. Then there is always the Chris Pratt wrestling documentary “On the Mat” about his old Washington High School program that was known for doing well at state. https://tribecafilm.com/films/512cf8bb1c7d76e046001e9e-on-the-mat Or the ESPN made one “The Streak” about a storied Florida program. https://www.amazon.com/Streak-Jonathan-Hock/dp/B0074NSZ3A
  9. Is it “Wrestle” about a Huntsville Alabama team where a few of the kids came from some tough backgrounds. That one had a few moments of wrestler frustration. Or maybe “Junk Yard Dogs” about a LA California team that didn’t have much of a program and was trying to earn respect from the better school. It also had a few of those moments https://www.amazon.com/Junkyard-Dogs-Kenji-Porter/dp/B082DMNDSL
  10. Is this the new age equivalent of a pet rock?
  11. My understanding is for many Olympics the general tickets are often acquired by host country citizens by putting your name in a lottery system and hoping your name get pulled. Or you can purchase the tickets form someone who’s name did. Some people will put in for whatever events they can and then go to the games and try to swap them out with someone for specific event tickets.
  12. Seems like that sure does gets the crowd into things.
  13. In a similar situation I’ve put a kid beside me in the chair and talked him through some match logic and thought process. With an assistant doing the same on the other side. I felt it helped for them to notice what was going on during a match from the outside looking in.
  14. Feldman not in full stride or Cornell on the rise?
  15. Adapt and overcome is the Cael way to another title. We will see.
  16. Feldman maybe on the mend from injury but time to see what he’s worth in the HWT field.
  17. Really wanted Paddy to have a break out year but people gotta understand Meyer is legit.
  18. While some people need to be apart from that team, Kueter is likely a welcome addition to it.
  19. I get most coaches seems to be is looking for the smooth ride to the most finalists but 3 events (Midland included) over a weeks time is overkill and makes all the event hold little useful value. I can handle two but the addition of a third has made this time of year pretty meaningless.
  20. Hard to throw multiple events together with his body is banged up but not healing quick enough. Sadly he’s at the point where it’s hard to get enough practices together to compete at the Big10 level and mentally that’s got to be draining too. I’m not going to prey to get any immediate knowledge but his body was telling him it was time to hang things up post college anyway.
  21. My guess would be with Sterlings wrestling heavy background he was hoping from the feet takedown would help him advance to back control or at least side control better vs. his skilled BJJ opponent. I haven’t watched the entire fight but guessing he wasn’t having much success passing that guys guard or finding any real submission attempts so wanted to change his attack position. I’ve seen guys with wrestling backgrounds do this a lot in grappling competitions. BJJ guys often then resort to the ground tactic seen in the video to neutralize some of that. Its worth noting that Sterling does have a solid level of BJJ under his belt as his MMA fights have shown, but when going against a high level almost completely BJJ grappler you may not get far and want to look for a different attack style to get in.
  22. For some of the contest yes. In most rule sets official does have the discretion to stand the opponent up if they are just sitting on the ground and not trying to engage too. But as long as you are moving cleared and attempting to make contact with your opponent that position is allows and the standing opponent would be the one who could be penalized if they are constantly disengaging and moving away.
  23. Yes, BJJ in general doesn’t make for good general audience TV if it’s MMA or not. But wrestling in general doesn’t either. Both are highlight reel sports at best for the average sports fan since they didn’t grow up with them. But almost all sports are like that for a person or culture if you didn’t grow up with an invested interest in it. Take soccer interest in the U.S. vs soccer in Europe or South America. Or pick about any other sport for that matter in one area of the world vs another.
  24. I’ve been stretching like crazy the last few days but I’m not sure I’ll be limber enough to bring it into my middle school classroom routine anytime this year.
  25. Now why you gotta bring the Jets into this. We all know they still have some work to do. “Trusting the process since 1969”
