  1. “Based on a True Story/Event” translates to take an inspirational story and create a money making entertainment piece out of it. If you are taking most of any “Based on a True Story/Event” as a history lesson you are doing it wrong. I’m sure Robles was told multiple time they were going to have to Hollywood the story up both for time allotted to tell the movie and certain events to make it a movie piece for anyone. Since he stuck with them as an advisor I’m guessing he was Ok with most of creative liberties they decided to take. As a history teacher I always tell kids to be inspired by the film, but be smart enough to do your own research on the historical people/events. You likely will learn more details and background which will help you like certain aspects better, but don’t be surprised if you are also disappointed in certain other aspects due to the movie glossing things over to create a hero moment or making it up for entertainment value.
  2. 9th - Penn HS 10th - New Prairie HS 11th - New Prairie HS 12th - Transferred to Jimtown HS (something said about being closer to a relative?), but then elected not to complete in HS not sure if eligibility became a factor again.
  3. I mean if he hasn’t shown an interest in agricultural science then Cornell may not be his best fit.
  4. Robles had AAed prior to that senior finals match. But I actually felt the better sports movie angle would have been for Roble and McDonough to wrestle in the second round of NCAA that “junior year” and have McDonough stop his every move and run him over. Kinda signifying Robles had more work to do to reach the level of even competing with McDonough by the next years. Thus the intense focus and training before the finals. Having him make the “finals” as a junior kinda made it feel like he was right there and so only needed to make a small adjustment for the senior run. So not as dramatic/climactic of an ending. I did like hearing about the behind the scenes family struggle angle, but agree with the above post that parts of it were drawn out enough it did take away from the athletic side of things. I think they could have told the same home story with a few less minutes of the movie for several scenes. But what do I know I’m not a film writer.
  5. So is this down to the actual serious candidates yet or do we need to wait for another cut or two?
  6. Seems like the least amount of TV aired matches/events I’ve ever seen. Used to be able to catch some duals and at least a tournament final or two between one of the ESPN channels, Big10 network, and the ACC network by this time of year. Now almost everything’s behind a paywall of some sort.
  7. I’m still listening.
  8. As always a seasonal favorite, but Jadidi really should be enjoyed year round.
  9. That’s seems more often than not.
  10. Crowd always want blood and constant action. That fight didn’t deliver and in their boredom the crowd started joining in on the chant.
  11. I’m really starting to believe they do.
  12. I was there it was a crazy battle of attrition. Attacks throughout, not a hanging on each other snooze fest.
  13. Basically make it or the actors in it eligible for any of the film award the movie has to be at least shown in a certain number of theaters on a limited release. Then they can put it out on Prime. It’s showing in Indianapolis this Saturday as part of a Film Festival.
  14. It was OK. It’s pretty rare that any movie or series made 20+ years after the original aired is ever solid.
  15. hope this lands better than football is going
  16. I got my favorite I could root for. But honestly I would like to see VTech to get a good look. He say he wants to be the changing face of the program well that is one on this list that on the brink of rising another level if a few things fall their way.
  17. Watched it PAX TV on Sunday late afternoon when each episode originally aired. Not sure when any reruns were shown.
  18. Well another month and we might actually be down to the list of schools that may have realistically been considered.
  19. WNO had a featured weight class each year where they try to narrow down the top guy where several competitors are close to equal. That’s the featured weight this year.
  20. I maybe able to deal with the in thread ads, but getting a new mini pop up video every time I change the page I’m on is a little overkill. Starting to feel like the Flo when I’m trying to watch action during a live event.
  21. You forget Fantasy Match Taylor has yet to lose. He runs the bracket and then bests Dake afterward.
  22. Someone should take a shot at checking into a couple of them. Japans having a solid Olympics.
  23. That could be true but by the rules now the wrestler has to confirm the challenge. So you would think the wrestler would get the reviewed sequence they were asking for. Again I don’t see a way Dake wins a challenge on what happened on that TD, not even sure what’s worth challenging cause he wasn’t close to a turn. But the rule seem to indicate it’s in the wrestlers hands to agree to a challenge so Dake should still get the one he was asking for. Language barriers may add some confusion but you have to imagine one of the officials would understand he was challenging the later sequence.
  24. If you look at the video playing on the screen above during the review, which is the same video the officials watch (per the rules), it was of Dake being driven out of bounds while he had a chest wrap and his knees were close to the match. That sequence ended with the Serb scoring a point for Dake’s “step out.”. Dake was nit challenging that scoring sequence nor could at that point since it occured much earlier in the match. He was arguing the what occured just before the Serb got the Takedown from Dale holding onto a body wrap on the mat too long. Dake was arguing to the refs it was the wrong scoring sequence they were watching but they kept reviewing it. I don’t see how Dake wins a challenge on the right footage but I’d be mad too if they weren’t even looking at the right thing. Even their explanation of after watching the video was confusing since they referenced that earlier scoring footage first before ended by confirming the Serb’s takedown points too for the sequence the video screen shows they weren’t reviewing.
