The team medals actually only count as 1 per medal type towards the total medals the IOC has set a hard number limit on. i.e. if the US Men’s Team wins a basketball gold that is only 1 gold medal towards the Olympic medal total. So I would the bigger hit is when the IOC has tons of events in a particular sport as mentioned above or when they add even more like the mixed gender relays they added to both swimming and track. Not to mention the random sports they get added hoping for more TV appeal. Or the sports where the athletes biggest prize is some other championship like NBA title, a PGA Open, a Tennis slam with some athletes even opt out of representing their country due to that. Then throw in the Equestrian events where only the ultra rich really participate and the horse does almost all the athletic work. Modern Pentathalon in a similar vein.

If I’m looking at the times correct the seasons for wrestling are 5am start and 12pm start EST. If that’s the case the finals will be near the end of a regular work day.

The David Taylor factor says this is not and shut case, but yeah we could probably just fast forward to the final few.

And here I was thinking Indiana had shown enough lately to not get cut until the next round. Maybe in a few years they can push themselves to make the round of 38 when the younger Bassett narrows down his list.

Not going, but curious. How were you guys able to acquire tickets to all or most of the wrestling events? I was assuming the size of the venue isn’t massive and with tickets open to the world figured each session would fill up pretty quick.

Not sure many fans are so petty that just this action would wnvoke a strong love or hate towards this kid. I myself just find his process of commiting to unproductive and a little vain (even if that wasn’t the intent). I still have no problem cheering him on, yet can feel this approach feels like a fruitless venture.

If the Aussies think those cowbells in the natatorium are annoying then there is no way they could deal with the energy level of the Iranian fans drums and horns.

Illinois commitment (then flip) Penn commitment (then flip) Oklahoma St attendee (redshirt year and now possible flip) Carroll has become a high quality wrestler “gun for hire” for sure after this latest performance. Is this a move due to Smith to Taylor change, maximize NIL options, or wanting to remain HWT over sucking to 190? Either way this yet another sign of wrestling being in a new era where you have additional options to jump ship than ever needed.

I’m torn between these two

I’d want to think Taylor would want to keep at least one of OK St assistants or at least a RTC coach on staff for legacy recruiting and team retention. But who the best option to bridge that gap? Then obviously the next question is where is the next stop off for the rest of the OK St staff.

Real question is what happens to the hobby farm? Some of those animals may not be built for the OK climate.
