In a freestyle bout … Joey never went to Fargo, whereas Ringer was quite accomplished at the age group levels. This is not an apples to apples comparison.

Drove through it today. It’s still standing.

Women’s College Wrestling League Overview
Jason Bryant replied to wrestle87's topic in College Wrestling
And to piggyback on @d3wrestle.com's post, here's my list of announced or active college women's teams. The distinction is NCAA, NAIA and Junior College. NCAA has three divisions, but without a divisional structure as of now with women's wrestling, it would be considered "national collegiate." The Junior Colleges actually have more of a hodgepodge because there's the NJCAA, then the Northwest Conference, which is its own thing separate from the NJCAA (but there are schools that dual affiliate for wrestling) and then there's Springfield Tech, which is a two-year school, but opts to compete with the NCWA. https://almanac.mattalkonline.com/womens-college-wrestling-teams/ -
The best I can figure is the University Division was actual universities and large public schools and the Ivies, where the College Division was the smaller private schools and smaller public "D3" sized schools. Since the NCAA tournament was "open" until 1968. The formation of the College Division came in 1963, there's a lot of scattering between who was going where. It's also indicative of the true wild west rulesets at the time - where you'd have a team pop up one year, then gone for a couple, then back again for a few. So that's a long way of saying I don't know for sure.

This is where there's a bit of an odd distinction. In 1973, there was no Division 2 yet. That began in the 1973-74 season. Clarion was still in the College Division in 1973, which we've grouped the Division II history with that era, which isn't wholly accurate. The College Division was split, with "University" inheriting the moniker Division 1, while D2 and D3 went their respective directions.

Tone is conversational with an attempt to be informative. If you want to read this with a vitriolic style, that’s not on me.

Audrey was actually their entrant in the EIWAs one year. -
D1 Tarleton State (TX) has a Head Coach?
Jason Bryant replied to Tom formerly Tofurky's topic in College Wrestling
Those teams are all grandfathered in. You can’t just “do it” these days. The handful of D3s who play D1 hockey (there is no D2 hockey). There’s the lax schools and of course, F&M in wrestling. -
That was still the college division. 73-74 was the first year of the three division format. I wasn’t there yet …

Montclair State was the only D3 in NJ with multiple placewinners. Happened in 1975, 1978, 1985 and they had two AA's in both 1988 and 1989. TCNJ (Trenton State) had one in 1981. D2 and D3 champs/finalists qualifying for D1's was only a thing from 1974-1991.

I don't mean for this to sound snarky, but a lot of these folks chose Division II and Division III for a reason. They like wrestling, they enjoy competing, but while there are serious wrestlers at that level, not everyone's going to want to go out there and compare themselves to a level of wrestling they chose not to compete in. How do we know these guys aren't proving themselves just trying to break the starting lineup at these smaller places? I was announcing the St. Cloud State intrasquad last week and I interviewed the winners afterwards and asked a few what their season goals were - the ones I asked that question to all said their first goal was to just start. Division II and Division III have different rules in terms of access to their coaching staffs, offseason training, etc. Also, since those matches don't count for D1 athletes in the qualification system we currently have (they do count for overall and career records), a number of D1 coaches don't want too many non-D1 athletes in a field.

Acceptable crossover.

Definitely a JTTS era from the old board.

Hanna taking the Olympic year to compete for the Bahamas, allegedly. -
Possibly in the pre-internet era like old Midlands or Wilkes.

"TWOOOOO" , when will it be "THREEEEEE"?

Had two opportunities to practice at intrasquads at Minnesota and St. Cloud State … despite the prompting to practice, no one yelled it. -

UWW isn’t running it, so they’re reliant on the hosts actually running this thing. My buddy is on the PA down there and the reports I’m getting … are … interesting to say the least.
-
Never trust pro wrestling sites. None of them actually know what’s going on. One “reported” he was out and two days later, Gable is on TV. Trust that Obsessed Wrestler page even less …

Lehigh - what is the recruiting vibe / reputation?

Or the fact football at the D1 level is a head count sport, they aren’t doing partials at K-State when even the best D1 wrestlers are fortunate to get a full boat to attend school and compete. Backup punters on scholarship have better deals than wrestlers in most cases.

Maybe, just maybe, he likes football more … the nerve!

Yes, because the guide on your smart TV has replaced the "channel surfing" click-click-click drive-by viewer. We've got viewing options as wrestling fans. We know where to go. Putting a big dual on a channel that isn't randomly there for niche sports fans helps get the sport added exposure. A lot more cable and streaming systems carry ESPN than they do ESPNU or ESPNews. Duals on ESPN and ESPN will have the opportunity for more eyeballs. Is it a huge deal? Maybe not, but it's definitely big.

Yeah, a bunch of folks were digging to make sure this was actually confirmed. ESPN research dug through the archives as well to confirm. My only thought that could have been an option was back in the early 1980s when ESPN launched, they put a lot of weird stuff on the air - obscure leagues and smaller college sports - so my thought was an IPTV dual could have shown up on the network back in the day tape-delayed. Apparently not. We just saw Big Ten women's volleyball on broadcast television for the first time last night. It's good for non-football and basketball sports.
