Here's some fun trivia for you guys interested in transfers. Name the former D1 NQ who wrestled for 5 schools in 5 years across 4 divisions (D1, D2, NAIA, NJCAA). I'll give you a hint to start with. He transferred the last time because his institution closed.
-
I don't think he's talking geographically. He's talking relationship-wise. Brooks Black is a coach there and they have had numerous Union County wrestlers, like the Ervins. The Raneys also compete with their RTC.
-
True. I would wager that John Smith's official exit wasn't the day he announced his retirement, so the 30-day window didn't start when we all thought it did.

New York is going to be Freestyle when they start in 2024-2025. It'll be the first and only non-Folkstyle state.

World OG qualifier brackets are out...

You'd be right. MIddle name is Sven too. -
Graduates have to be in the portal by the same date as everyone else now. Changed very recently. Schools were required to complete the entry within 48 hours, so it shouldn't take too long for everyone to be known this year.

All won as a Jr: Pete Bush (Redshirted due to injury) Barry Davis (Redshirted for Olympics) Gene Mills (Redshirted for Olympics) Darrion Caldwell (Redshirted due to injury) Jordan Burroughs (Redshirted due to injury) And in case you don't count those previous 5, but they used a regular redshirt: Pat Smith Jim Gregson

I sat around the top sections. I'm sure the bottom didn't really have issues because they angles were less. I sat near the concrete wall once and it did obscure the view of one of the mats.
-
I must be in the absolute minority because I hated the arena. The sight lines were horrible. Any time someone leaned slightly forward or was taller it blocked the view of mats. I've not had that issue with the other arenas. Everything else was great though.
-
Just realized I never answered this one. Arthur Holding of Iowa State won at 135 despite originally entering at 125.

Iowa Hawkeyes 34 straight years with NCAA finalist

You'd have to put some qualifiers on that. How many guys? Lots of teams have lost all their final matches if the sample size is small enough. -
Is There A List of AA's From Each Program?

Does any one know what happened to Brya as Cornella's replacement? Did he miss weight or not even go?

Session 6 - Championship Finals Saturday March 23 2024
cowcards replied to PortaJohn's topic in College Wrestling
You'd be correct. Still 11 states that haven't had one. Only GA's 2nd finalist after Charlie Heard for UTC back in 1983. He is their 23rd AA overall. Virginia Tech has been home to 5 of those. -
It more than doubles when you add in the D2/3, NAIA, NJCAA. Probably triples overall once you figure the women. when I saw that .guru was a domain, I knew that was the one. Ha
-
There are still a few guys from the 2017/2018 classes hanging around. I’d imagine they are all born in the 1990s. Guys like Mekhi Lewis and Feldkamp. Just look at those old recruiting rankings and you’ll get a good idea.
-
I know he defaulted. Their website says he was injured. So I can't confirm that one.
-
Yep. I don't know when exactly they stopped allowing wrestlers to bump up. I'd think it was around the time you had to start qualifying for the tournament and wasn't just open to anyone.
-
Hey everyone, I've finally gotten around to putting my D1 database on a website. It's by far the most comprehensive database you are going to find. I'm working on getting some others up. Over the next few months I hope to get my D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA up and running too. You can now mess around with where I get all my info from. I have also put up the WCWA, International Worlds, Pan-ams, and a few states too. Wrestling.Guru Notice the domain is not a .com but a .guru

Trivia question based off the missed weight thread. Name the wrestler who was a National Champ the SAME year he missed weight at a lower weight and had to bump up a weight at the national tournament. This would be like Spencer Lee missing weight at 125, bumping up to 133 and winning it.
-
That was way more likely to happen in the earlier years of the tournament. It definitely happened a few times. Some guys that I have tracked but not all inclusive: 1969 - John Imrie (Missed at 191 and bumped to UNL) 1976 - Shaw Garel 1981 - Steve Rosenstein 1981 - Thomas Landrum 1981 - Dave Allen 1981 - Joe Atiyeh 1981 - Johnnie Selmon 1982 - Craig Noble 1984 - Melvin Douglas 1989 - Stacy Richmond 1994 - Eric Ivins 1995 - Alfonso Crus 1996 - Dustin Young 2007 - Daryl Cocozzo 2011 - Joe LeBlanc 1981 is the craziest year for missed weight. Selmon misses 2nd day and gives Clar Anderson a FFT to the semis. Rosenstein lost to Anderson in the first round Landrum lost to Anderson in the 2nd round Because those 2 missed on day 2, there is no wrestle-back for his part of the bracket (only those who lost to the semifinalists wrestled-back) Baza gets a FFT to the 5/6 match No 8th placer I left out one that I'll actually do a trivia question about this very topic in a few.

I wasn't sure when NDSU made the switch. One of these days I'll get around to documenting what years programs were what division. Thanks!
