Missouri vs Okie State 1pm CST
MizzouFan01 replied to FanOfPurdueWrestling's topic in College Wrestling
Mauller and Travis attended the same High School in Mo, I know Brock is a little bit older, but I wonder if there is some familiarity between them. -
I’ve been thinking about this post almost all day. Smith like you said has done a great job with the recruits he’s gotten, a lot being home grown MO kids. Did he miss a couple, sure. But in all honesty, outside of Zach Bailey, Cody Brewer and one of the Lester twins, who all AA and won a Championship at Oklahoma, who else went away and AA for another D1 school? I don’t count Luis Caputo, I’d choose Stanford over Mizzou also. Clemson was at Edinburgh before Smith I believe. Point is without looking over past lineups, Smith got the right recruits to come. Couple of the Oak Park guys came back after trying other places, Connor Flynn came back home. Josh Saunders, big recruit, choose and ivy education along with Jack Darrah. So far no AA for either of those guys, and Saunders can’t make their lineup. Eierman left, as he stated in his interview that he felt at Mizzou he had a better chance to improving his freestyle aspirations. How has that worked out? As far as folk, he was going to take 1/2 the last two years anyway no matter if it was Mizzou or Iowa. Him and Nick Lee where the top dogs his last two years competing so that’s a mute point. Meanwhile Mizzou has two world jr Champs in KOT and Rocky, with a third team member in Hawks. Iowa nowhere to be found in the freestyle team outside of Desanto and Lee. Smith has gotten most of the Mo top guys, sometimes it just don’t work out. Malik Johnson, Cevion Severado, and a couple others come to mind. Who would’ve thought Vinny Zerban is the only CBC kid from those fab 4 teams to be making noise on the D1 level. Maple is doing well in the PA area for recruits lately. We got Kollin Rath, and if CoMo was closer to PA, we would’ve gotten Collin Gaj. Smith and Company do great with who they get. We might not be Penn State, but we are a top 10 program every year.

In the Black and Gold meet, Selzter beat both Korbin Shepard and Peyton Moore at 133, Kade Moore didn’t not compete. Selzter then wrestled the ASU, OU duals along with the Tiger Stule invite. Both competed at the Cougar clash, Moore placed 4th with both losses to Water of WVU. Selzter 0-2 BBQ. Maybe that was the unofficial wrestle off, because Moore has been the starter since then with Zeke filling in at both 141/149 sparattically.

Cook of SDSU over Jore Volk 2-1 tonight.

Cant wait

@VakAttack, with news of you being in attendance at NCAAS, does this mean we will conduct our annual pick’em contest prior to your leaving for KC?
-
That’s true, and even though Hawks won up at 197, can’t help but think Rocky would’ve won by more than 2-0. Still a close match. Mizzou’s class next year is not as great as the KOT, Rocky class, but it’s pretty good.

Extreme Heights by weight (in honor of Boo Dryden)

Let me start by saying Cox himself was a Mo great, winning 4 titles in different weights and being the first to do so is a huge accomplishment. Winning those in the upper weights where Freshman don’t typically do well is another amazing feat. For TJ, all three high school losses where as a freshman, 4x champ while wrestling up in weight as a Sr and tech falling his opponent in the state finals was something my eyes had never seen before. Not only was he technical but he simple wanted to embarrass everyone he wrestled. He gets my vote as Mo great, not only because of his 4 titles but what he did at Fargo. I’d have to look it up, but he was a countless time champ and runner up at all levels. I believe he won Sr nationals also. -

Arguably the best Mo high school wrestler ever. He was a beast. -
I didn’t know that. Just knew Olenjik beat Ramirez in the finals.
-
Didn’t Ramirez beat him at CKLV?
-
It’s behind the paywall, wish I could read it.
-
Although I see your point, but if Carr beats KOT in the dual but O’Toole beats him at B12’s I could see KOT as the 1 over an unbeaten B10 MM. KOT strength of schedule based on the wrestlers he’s faced outweighs MM. Do I think it happens that a 1 loss KOT is the 1 seed, probably not, but we’ve seen crazier things happen in the brackets.
-
Wolbert to me has to be one of if not Mizzou’s top target. Idk to much about Wisconsin wrestling in general, but from heard or read, he’s the next top AWA kid after Sinclair.
-
Ive heard of Stoffel, but not Heiser. I need to do my homework. Yeah, I figured Wyatt would follow the rest of the arrowhead guys to Mizzou, but somehow he chose Minny. Good for him though. I just followed him closer with the arrowhead link Mizzou had.
-
Besides Sinclair, who is the other Mizzou commit? Sure wish it was Wyatt from arrow head but I think he’s a gopher.

Never knew who he was until I looked at the roster, but I’ve seen him many times on TV in the duals. Normally right behind the coaches cheering in the guys. Now I have a name for the face. -
I stand corrected, had to look at it again. Carr was the 1, KOT the 2, Hamati 3 and Ramirez the 4
-
KOT wasn’t the #1 seed last year. Carr was the #1, KOT was 3, maybe. Still to your point, the committee has set a precedent that they can and will move wrestlers in some years.
-
Hypothetically speaking let’s say Bono gets fired, Askren, Ben or Max are hired. How long would it take for them to be Tier 2 behind PSU? 2/3 recruiting cycles? How many former AWA wrestlers hit the portal to comeback home? As stated before by others who knows if the Askrens even want to coach college. We know Ben more so than Max like the freedom to do things their way. But if I’m the Wisconsin AD, I’m making strong push. Those 2/3 years of mediocrity, what they are now, have to be worth it if flips the program around.

Big 12’s, B10’s and NCAAs are going to be at 165.
-
At 149, it was Zeke Selzter for Mizzou not Gioffre.
-
Mizzou looked flat, slow, and not engaged. We are not in wrestling shape right now. Could be the long break between matches before the WVU match, could be lack of tournaments or matches in general, I’m not sure. Hopefully we get right over the second half of the season. Rocky if not injured needs to wrestle every remaining match we have. Outside of KOT, Surtin and Moore, we looked lethargic.
-
Yep. Carr controlled the match the whole way and was never in danger. Also had over 2 min of riding time. Olenjik never attempted a shot, couple slide byes, nothing close though. B12 is deep at 165.

I watched the Harvard/Cornell match today. I’m glad they fixed that glare. Between the glare, and both teams wearing red, it was rough in the eyes. I liked the fact they pulled it up on screen so we could see how it was adjusted lt.
