  1. Robbie Howard (if healthy) would be the starter. The problem is he's yet to be healthy a full season at Penn State. He has chronic shoulder injuries which seem to only get worse over time. At his best he is capable of being a lower AA level guy. He did take out Malik Heinselman at NCAAs the last time he was there. Gary Steen - 2x PA state champ, tries super hard but seems undersized. He's had a few years in the PSU room now so I have a hard time seeing him making a jump to a .500 level guy. Kurt McHenry - I remember him being a top level recruit who was neck and neck with Heinselman in high school. I think he had (and maybe still has) the same issue as Heinselman as not being big enough for 125. Hard to see him being a solid upgrade over Gary Steen even. I think Penn State needs someone else in the mix...a healthy, full-sized 125 pounder. Given the current room, a low level AA would have to be a favorite at being Penn State's starter at 125 this year. Any ideas?
  2. What was his ranking coming out of high school?
  3. Wright was a split second away in OT from being a 3x champ like Bo. Still, 4x AA, 3x finalist, 2x champ is pretty amazing for someone who wasn't really heralded as a top recruit out of high school.
  4. If related to anything, it's more likely the gambling scandal (which is also fake news)
  5. Pretty similar credentials, not even factoring in freestyle. Can one argue that Spencer had a better career than Zain? And Zain is NEVER mentioned as a GOAT wrestler. Zain: 127-3, ended career on 95 match win streak. 0 losses by bonus 54 career falls, 22 TFs, 20 MD. 3x NCAA champ, 5th as a true freshman 2x Hodge Trophy winner Spencer: 98-6, ended career with loss and 2 MFF. 2 losses by bonus (FALL Piccinnini; FALL Ramos) 37 career falls, 33 TFs, 16 MD. 3x NCAA champ, 6th as a sixth year senior 2x Hodge Trophy winner
  6. Desanto at 133 Jason Nolf at 157 Vincenzo Joseph at 165 Quentin Wright at 184 Kurt Angle at HWT

  8. Favorite is obviously Iowa so he can join Anthony (and probably A.J.)
  9. https://www.instagram.com/p/CslishPuL57/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== 1. Cael 2. Gable, Dan 3. Dake 4. Mark Schultz 5. Pat Smith 6. John Smith 7. Stieber 8. Askren 9. Tom Brands 10. David Taylor
  10. My take: if Jason Nolf and Nick Lee had a baby it would be Mitchell Mesenbrink. White as a marshmallow, relentless pace like Nolf and grind like Nicky Lee.
  11. Restricting it to transfers that happened this off-season. Last season Real Woods won biggest impact...transferred from Stanford to Iowa and became the best wrestler on a team that included Spencer Lee. Nominees: Victor Voinovich (Iowa) Shane Griffith (Mich) Chris Cannon (Mich) Michael DeAugstino (Mich) Lucas Davison (Mich) Yaraslau Slavikouski (Rutgers) Aaron Nagao (Penn State) Seth Nevills (Maryland) Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) Bernie Truax (Penn State) My pick is Griffith, I see him getting back to the top of the podium in the Michigan room.
  12. Over 2x champ O'Toole? I don't see it.
  13. Penn State 125 Really counting on Robbie Howard to be healthy, which he hasn't been since he started college. If RH can stay healthy he can make nationals and win a few matches there. If not, it's going to be another year with a hole at 125 and no qualifier. 133 Expect Nagao to be a national title contender. Hope he can improve from neutral in the Penn State room. He's already a hammer on top. 141 Bartlett despite placing 3rd I think he can still improve a lot 149 SVN - see Bartlett above. I think he has even more room for improvement than BB. 157 Haines should contend for a national title. Hope he can improve on his awesome true freshman campaign. 165 Messenbrink I don't see as a finalist right away but a mid-tier AA would be great 174 Starocci if he's back should be favored to 3peat 184 Truax I project as 3-5 at NCAAs. The weight is too deep for him to be a title favorite but hoping he can improve with better training partners. 197 Brooks I see as a finalist but not a favorite since he's moving up a weight. He's actually shorter than Starocci so I wonder how he deals with the length of the bigger 197 pounders HWT Kerk I have as the favorite now that Parris is gone Penn State still wins NCAAs comfortably, even if Howard gets hurt again. I actually think they win by a smaller margin this upcoming year though. It was really just a magical run this past season with several guys way overperforming their seeds.
  14. Do they usually also include their dad in the picture and the head coach? Also under his name it lists "University of Iowa"
  15. Posted by Anthony Ferrari...he and his brother Angelo in full Iowa gear, tagging the whole Iowa wrestling team. Seems pretty official now, no? Only question is why AJ isn't in the picture too.
  16. Um...he could slot in perfectly once Cael retires? Also I'm pretty sure a majority of Hawkeye fans would give their left nut to hire DT as head coach.
  17. He could have beaten Yianni (again) in the NCAA finals has he not gotten hurt.
  18. Featuring: DT, his BFF Kyle Dake, Kyle Snyder, RBY, Gilman, Geno Petriashvili, Jake Varner, Cael
  19. There is a huge thread on Hawkeye report about this. Including lots of fighting between Willie Saylor and Bob Nichols (who apparently one of the biggest donors to the Hawkeye program and namesake of the new Nicolls Wrestling Room: Apparently Bob is the one who "persuaded" the Brands to go after the Ferraris and continues to do so. And Bob was making many posts slamming the Chittums for leaving the Hawkeyes. So much drama - see here: https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/ferrari-clan.413922/page-45
  20. I know many Hawks fans think the Brands screwed up in losing Chittum but let's lay out the facts: 1. 2 or 3 Ferraris > 1 Chittum 2. Chittum has committed to 3 schools before ever donning a college singlet. Odds are he switches again. 3. Chittum will be 21 (or older) by the time he wrestles in his first NCAAs. His upside is limited. 4. Angelo and Anthony Ferrari have higher upside than Chittum. 5. AJ is just icing on the cake - he is immediately the title favorite at 197, yes even over Aaron Brooks. People are being short sighted in only focusing on losing Chittum (which could have happened anyway). Once 2 or 3 Ferraris are in the Carver-Hawkeye garage this move by the Brands will be praised as GENIUS.
  21. How is ISU better than Iowa in any sense relevant to wrestling?
