  1. Brands will take AJ because they need the other 2 brothers on the team. Package deal.
  2. Brooks is actually about the same height as former 157 pound champ David Carr
  3. Here is a side by side comparison of Brooks and AJ. Note that AJ is at least 2-3" taller than Brooks, who is noticeably shorter than the 165, 174, 197 and HWT champs.
  4. Yes, he'll be starting for the Hawkeyes 2nd semester.
  5. From Umoja to Imani, may all the blessings of Kwanzaa be yours.
  6. I highly doubt we'll hear any Hawkeye fans booing when AJ runs out...
  7. Brooks is a stud but AJ is also a NCAA champ at a higher weight and is naturally a much bigger man.
  8. All will be forgiven by the Hawkeye faithful once he takes the mat in the black and gold...
  9. He's currently weighing 205 so he's definitely going 197 and not heavyweight. Brooks vs Ferrari will be an epic final. Who is favored? I have to go Ferrari since he's coming down from 225 pounds and Brooks is going up from 184. Brooks is already short/small for 197 and there's close to a 30 pound difference in natural size between the two men.
  10. And takes out #5 Edmond Ruth! Is he a threat to the likes of Gabe Arnold or Carter Starocci?
  11. The unfortunate truth is that wrestling is largely remains a rural sport...and this is reflected both in the fanbase and the participants. And yes, many of those rural fans are racist whether they readily admit or overtly display it. It's sad and it definitely hinders the growth of the sport. As a Penn State fan it makes me proud to see how Cael has embraced diverse athletes and how he's allowed them to thrive and propel Penn State to meteoric heights. The current roster boasts 6 diverse starting wrestlers - 60% of the roster is a racial minority which is almost unheard of in top D-1 programs. There are another 10 non-starterson the roster who probably identify as URMs: (Dunbar, Evans, Facundo, Garcia, Gibson, Heard, McHenry, Shindledecker, Wang) 133 - Aaron Nagao 141 - Beau Bartlett 149 - SVN (injured) 174 - Starocci 197 - Brooks HWT - Kerk And it's no coincidence that these guys also happen to be the best wrestlers on the team! Look at a program like Iowa...I think they would compete better against Penn State if they increased the diversity of their roster. Unfortunately, diverse wrestlers know that Iowa isn't exactly the most welcoming place to people of color. They can do better at a welcoming place like Happy Valley.
  12. If he makes a NFL roster he will have made more money from athletics than 99.9% of college wrestlers. It absolutely makes sense for him to pursue football. Same can be said for guys like Ben Keuter.
  13. It's shocking how much the rule affected Heil. His performance really cratered after he was no longer allowed to spend half the match rolling on his own back.
  14. Is hooking the ankle against the rules now? I must have missed that.
  15. Who are the wrestlers who officially or unofficially lead to significant rule changes? I can think of: Logan Stieber - how takedowns are called due to his finals match with Jordan Oliver Dean Heil - neutral danger rule due to his habit of rolling on his back (match with Jimmy Gullibon comes to mind) Who else?
  16. Thinking of the elite college wrestlers who have won multiple NCAA title but have been pinned in college. David Taylor - pinned by Bubba Jenkins in the finals Kyle Snyder - pinned by Gadson Spencer Lee - pinned by Piccinni in a dual and by Ramos in the NCAA semi-finals RBY - pinned by Austin Gomez in a dual IMar - pinned by Nolf and Joseph Metcalf - pinned by Caldwell Myles Martin - pinned by Nickal Have these guys ever been pinned? Dake Burroughs Dan Gable John Smith Ed Ruth Nolf Zain Dieringer Askren Yianni J'Den Cox Nickal Stieber
  17. Maybe they should add absolute number of wins as a seeding criteria?
  18. Based on placement in the graphic his top choices are currently: Arizona State, Iowa State, Rutgers, Indiana and Cal Baptist.
  19. I heard he's about to announce his top 5. Another PA kid, elite lightweight who could buck the trend and become a Hawkeye and lead the program...be a real game changer. Do we think it happens or does he go to Ohio State or Penn State? Penn State has had a long drought at 125 ever since Nicky Suriano left and cursed the program. They need an elite 125 pounder but at Penn State Bassett would just be "another guy" although he'd probably win at 2-3 NCAA titles and just as many team titles.
  20. Currently ranked #14 by Intermat, 9-0. I think he's a bit small for 165, 157 is probably his more natural weight. Is he a true AA contender? A potential finalist? Love the kid's pace...reminds me a bit of a cross between Nolf and Nick Lee.
  21. Starocci's final wins: 1. Kemererer (4x AA) 2. Lewis (NCAA champ) 3. Labriola (5x AA) Brooks' final wins: 1. Hidlay (3x AA) 2. Amine (5x AA, Olympic bronze) 3. Keckeisen (3x AA)
