  1. Lopez clears his biggest hurdle in his pursuit of a historic 5th Olympic gold! Was surprised the Iranian did not choose to take his opportunity on top? Lopez’s one turn ended up being the difference. Unfortunately, for Coon it eliminates from the competition. Literally, the worst possible draw… he could have been the third best guy, but we will never know.
  2. Amit is so impressive with dominating position at all times, but not over pursuing and getting herself in trouble. Looking like a savy veteran
  3. The slip throw in Amit’s match was a perfect example of why I hate that rule… Amit is totally controlling her and running her all over the mat with an underhook, she can’t do anything other than step out or throw a fake headlock attempt, but the fake headlock rewards her with no score and a restart
  4. Let’s go, Amit!! She looked awesome. So strong and positionally sound
  5. That would be awesome to witness history like that! If they meet head to head, though, I can’t root against my own countrymen so I’d be cheering on Coon. However, I must admit, if he is wrestling the Iranian, I’d root for López even I though it would eliminate Coon from the repachage
  6. I guess anything is possible. That would be amazing, but I’m not holding my breath lol
  7. Terrible news! I can only imagine how devastating it must be to train your whole life for an event only to lose that opportunity due to an injury from practice a few weeks before take the Olympics!
  8. So is Amit . I would think Amit will have a pretty significant size/strength, but you are right… you can’t underestimate the Japanese women. They are incredible
  9. That’s good to know. I expect her to win the bracket regardless of seed, but would be nice to have an easier match right off the scale given she is coming down a weight.
  10. Really sucks for Coon given Lopez would be the next match as well. If he loses to the Iranian, he would be eliminated if Iran loses to Lopez. Both are pretty likely I would guess
  11. Both USA wrestlers “randomly” draw the #1 seed
  12. Well I think you could name at least one… Kyle Dake
  13. Wow! That escalated quickly. It’s sad that there can’t be understanding on both sides. If you are the one crying that there’s too much hate, start the change with yourself. Try to understand people with a different perspective than you. Some people saw a headline or a meme and believed that a biological male was physically beating a woman. I’d hope everyone would be upset if that was the case. Now I wish people didn’t jump to conclusions without knowing all the details, but if you consider what people believe, it’s easier to be understanding. Maybe they aren’t a bad person… maybe they just don’t know the truth. In this instance, it seems like no one really knows the whole truth yet so it’s best to be understanding on both sides
  14. Lock Haven has one of their best recruiting classes in quite some time coming in this year and has done a respectable job under Coach Moore. I don’t think they are in as bad of a situation as the others, but yes the whole college landscape is changing and it’s going to be tough for all these small state schools to survive
  15. Saw this and looks like there will be some pretty good matches. They have a PPV option on the website.
  16. As others have mentioned the change in takedowns needed for a tech likely make this equivalent to no change at all. I’m not sure why anyone would think there would be a major change in the number of takedowns though? I was a fan of the rule change because I think it is a better reflection of who is the better wrestler. Takedowns are tough to get and should be worth more than 2 escapes IMO. I’ve always assumed though, that if a wrestler can take down their opponent, they would do it whether it’s worth two or three points.
  17. I’d pick Blaze, but you are right those three are on another level and there’s no wrong answer. Bassett and Forrest are right there on that level too… just not in the same graduating class
  18. You are right it is a matter of preference. However, continuing with your analogy, freestyle is like a ribeye, folkstyle is like a T-bone, and Greco is like a McDonald’s hamburger. At some point the product itself is limiting. Sure, you will find some people that would rather have a hamburger, and some people may have never even gotten to taste a well marbled steak. But most that are truly experienced with all three options are going to prefer a steak. And the smart ones prefer the ribeye
  19. I’m tempted to pick Team USA at every weight because it a possibility at each weight. However if I’m being totally honest who I think is most likely, these are my picks. Lee Musakaev Sidakov Brooks Taz Zare
  20. I just meant that the scoring is easier for a casual fan to understand than the current high school rules.
  21. Well right now, a tech fall from the “take him down, let him up game” would take 15 take downs. Under the new 3 point takedown, if we made it a 20 pt tech fall, it would only take 10. So it’s still a huge improvement from what we have now. I’m not totally opposed to keeping it at 15, but I think 20 is more consistent.
  22. Yes, I was trying to not be biased and give a legit prediction. However, I’m not sure it’s fair to say that MFS getting 6 medals is just doing “as thought”. I definitely agree that we are capable of all 6, but a lot has to go right for that to happen. I am thinking 4-6 medals for MFS, 4–6 for women’s, and 0 for GR
  23. I’m going to say we get 10 medals between the three styles
  24. Well I do think there’s a difference between worlds and Olympics as far as emphasis on country. But in my opinion, yes, I still think you should be rooting for the guy representing your own country at a world level competition. I wouldn’t be that upset about it at worlds (especially if you’re rooting against Downey lol), but the Olympic is all about countries competing against each other. You’ve gotta root for your home team there. Country is bigger than any one individual.
  25. If any USA citizen is rooting against their own country in the Olympics based on what college the athlete attended, that is really sad IMO. I would sure hope all the PSU fans will be rooting for Spencer, and I think most of them will be especially since he is from PA. But you are probably right that some will find it hard to root for him over RBY.
