  1. Two bads = a good?
  2. It’s pretty bad… I agree he should be punished with his seed, but I just don’t know how you can lower than 7. Now you’re punishing Lewis for earning the number 1!
  3. Really dislike Fix over Crookham for number 1. Crookham wrestles and beats the returning NCAA and World champ twice and Fix ducks Crookham in the dual and is rewarded with the #1 seed.
  4. My bad… hard for me to tell sometimes without non-verbal cues [emoji23]
  5. Neither of those things you said are true. If you have ever wrestled in a big match, you know your adrenaline is rushing even if you tech or pin the guy in the first period. And to say he doesn’t care about the match is crazy. He works extremely hard and has put so much into the sport it’s impossible not to care. Now, what Cael (and other coaches) have done a good job of is helping them keep it in perspective. (See O’Toole interview above for another example of great perspective). At that level, it’s easy to think wrestling is your life. In order, for them to be able to wrestle “free” and not tighten up in big matches, it helps to keep the match in perspective and have a bigger purpose. No matter what you believe, it’s clear to see that having a bigger purpose in life makes it easier to have that mentality of keeping the match in perspective (it’s not impossible though and there are the exceptions that can do it without religious beliefs). I believe Cael recognizes this and actively recruits this type of kid when he can. I believe he helps foster these beliefs even though the vast majority of his wrestlers are of a different religion than him. I’m not a Penn state fan, but you have to respect that.
  6. Great interview! I agree that’s a great perspective and if others shared their views in the same manner, it would be received better. However, I know that giving interviews is hard especially after a match when adrenaline is kicking and emotions are a whirlwind. And college students just generally don’t have the life perspective yet to give a great speech off the top of their head. So I tend to extend grace for interviews that aren’t the best.
  7. In years past, it seemed like they valued conference placement and wins over automatic qualifiers the most. Looks like @Wrestleknownothing had to show he knows he knows something and posted the actual criteria… see the document he referenced for the criteria breakdown
  8. I agree PCN did a great job. I think the flo announcers for the AAA finals were excellent too though.
  9. That’s crazy prices for those tickets! Its terrible that they force you to buy online and then add an extra fee
  10. I don’t disagree it’s you, but don’t you find it odd that it seemed like no one took this stance with Spencer Lee last year? And before someone tries to speculate on the legitimacy of the injuries, please realize that’s all it is (speculation)…none of us know/knew exactly what injuries either are/were dealing with.
  11. Yeah I was trying to be smart… point is that cable is not free. If they were on Fox, NBC, or some other other-the-air network, then they would be free. PCN was never free (not sure about NPR). You either had to pay for cable or now pay for flo. More and more people are ditching cable subscriptions, so a lot of people would be left out from watching it either way.
  12. When was that? I don’t ever remember them being on an over-the-air network?
  13. Seems like it’s pretty easy to see what went on… Carter wanted to wrestle and thought he could, Cael thought it was best for him to rest so he did, Carter was upset about the decision and sent a tweet at midnight (probably after a few beverages) that made it seem like he was done. I’m sure he’s going to wrestle at NCAAs and I’m guessing he’s going to win it too. If he’s healthy enough that he truly thought he could wrestle now, he’s going to be healthy enough to win Nationals in two weeks. He will thank Cael later.
  14. You don’t need the parentheses… in PA it is States!
  15. You’re right I should’ve probably added 133 as well.
  16. I agree that he probably won’t win it all, but it is definitely in the realm of possibility. 125 is so wide open that anything is possible, so right now I feel like 149 is their only weight that seems virtually impossible (but you never know). Now of course the chances all that going right for them is extremely slim.
  17. You are probably right and it seems everything always goes the route of “the rich get richer”. But I will add that many of the small programs are already doing a lot of their own fundraising. Potentially, the school could continue to help fund as well because it is still a draw to their school. RTCs could work together like Penn and Drexel at PRTC. It would be cool to see local tech schools and things like that work together with universities and it may help the smaller schools get more athletes
  18. That would be extremely impressive, but I honestly wouldn’t be shocked at 7. I do think 8 or more certainly qualify as shocking. Unless by wrestlers on the mend he means Shane Van Ness is ready to go… then they would even have a chance at all 10! (I know, not gonna happen but still crazy to think about)
  19. Maybe if this comes to fruition, USA wrestling should step in and sponsor some RTC team duals and a championship tournament? As others have pointed out, there as so many good post high school options for your career path, why should someone who wants to continue their athletic career be forced to go to a traditional “4 year” college? College teams are already working closely with RTCs. Why not have them work together and a kid could be enrolled or not enrolled in the college for their team competitions?
  20. Haha yeah the only way PSU shocks the world in March is if they don’t win the tournament!
  21. I thought nobody cares about dual meets
  22. Honestly, I think you nailed it with your OP. I was trying to add something a little different and I must admit I was having a hard time deciding where Iowa would pick up another win (I do think they take one between 141-157), so I was trying to give myself some wiggle room [emoji23] But here goes… 125 - Dec Iowa 0-3 133 - Dec PSU 3-3 141 - Dec Iowa (this time…Beau wins at least one at B1G or NCAA) 3-6 149 - Dec PSU 6-6 157 - Dec PSU 9-6 165 - Dec PSU 12-6 174 - MD PSU 16-6 184 - MD PSU 20-6 197 - TF PSU 25-6 285 - Fall PSU 31-6 Not sure where I got 33-6 in my first prediction lol, but I’ll with 31-6 as my final
  23. That’s fair… I admit I haven’t seen too many of his matches and was just going by the eye test. He may have improved more than it appears. Either way, I still think it’s fair to call this one a toss up. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Woods wins this one in Carver, but I would be shocked if Woods beats Beau 3 times in row this year.
  24. Idk… Woods was definitely the better wrestler last year, but to me it hasn’t looked like he improved much. Bartlett on the other hand looks a lot tougher this year. We can’t put too much stock into last year. I’m not a PSU fan, but I have to admit they have a pretty good track record at having their guys ready in March. Even if Beau loses this one, my money would be on him at NCAAs.
