  1. Perhaps listen to the clip before posting. He does not say a word about term limits in it.
  2. The liberal ethos as expressed by their cultural icon, Stephen Colbert, is that America didn't need to be great again because it never stopped being great. He even spoofed the idea with a book title "America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't".
  3. Trump is going full populist while also undermining his own statements. Also known as Being Trump. Over the weekend in Nashville at a crypto conference he told the audience he would: Establish a strategic national bitcoin reserve (would require a new law) Never sell the bitcoin (then how is it a reserve?) Fire SEC Chair Gary Gensler (head of an independent agency not currently allowed to be fired by the President) Three years ago he told Fox News bitcoin was a scam and he was not a fan. Even allowing that people do change their minds his other quote has me, shall we say, skeptical. In his Nashville remarks, Trump said that he had heard from former Republican Presidential candidate and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy that the crypto community “involved” 175 million people. “So when they heard that, they said, ‘let’s be nice to them, at least until after the election.’” Once again Trump catches himself saying the quiet part out loud.
  4. Hutton remains the only freshman UNL/275/285 to win a championship. It is noteworthy that it happened in the short window post WW2 where freshman were eligible and he did it as a 23 year old freshman. Though I am sure many of the guys he wrestled were of similar age. Only three others have made the final. John Witte for Oregon State in 1952 (and never wrestled again, moving on to football), Tommy Rowlands for Ohio State in 2001, and Steve Mocco for Iowa in 2002.
  5. And the announcer brought up wrestling during swimming. I had to wipe away a tear.
  6. Watching Katie Ledecky swim a 1500 is amazing. She won her heat by something like 30 meters.
  7. The settlement, if approved, is only binding on Power 5 schools. So the Ivies, EIWA, Socon, MAC could opt out of it and keep their roster sizes above 30 and scholarships at 9.9. But then they could not pay players. If they want to pay, then they have to abide by all the elements of the settlement.
  8. It is a sad story https://johnnythompsonnum1.blogspot.com/2020/03/gone-lost-forgotten-their-best-notre.html

  10. The realm where the college head football coach has all the power.
  11. I think it is a matter of degrees rather than one sport only does one thing and the other only does a different thing. But the key difference between the sports that will always drive more wrestles to compete for other countries is that in wrestling you do not need to beat everyone, just the ones in front of you. That makes being there more valuable. You might get that lucky draw. That doesn't work in swimming. The way UWW handles seeding also encourages wrestlers to compete for other countries. By only seeding some wrestlers and having the seeds be akin to participation awards, it increases the chances for a lucky draw. Sebastian Rivera at last year's worlds is exhibit A.
  12. Floating is so over rated. Even after getting "prosperous" I cannot float.
  13. Baseball is very much an odd fit. In the MLB they play a series because the pitcher is so important that you need to see all pitchers to know which team is better. Without that it is such a weird fit.
  14. I meant there are not a lot of US born swimmers that swim for other nations. Rather there are foreign nationals who swim for their home country but train in the US. That is especially true as some of the beat coaches in swimming are college coaches. Also, when it is a timed event where you have to beat the entire field it is less beneficial to go elsewhere. There is no such thing as getting a lucky draw ala Coon or Rivera.
  15. It is often the other way around for swimming. A lot of foreign nationals come to the US for training. France's Leon Marchand, who broke Phelps' last remaining record, went to school at ASU and was coached by Phelps' former coach, Bob Bowman.
  16. Not a lot of action this morning with only three events, but there was a big upset. #1 seed Sam Short of Australia seems not fully recovered from recent illness as he fails to make the 800 final. Meanwhile, our hero, Bobby Finke will look to copy his world championship swim and win it from an outside lane. As a recovering distance swimmer, I love to watch this guy bring it home like a runaway locomotive. But beware as only 3 seconds separated first from eighth in an 8 minute race. On the women's side McIntosh eased her way into the 400 IM final where she will be the prohibitive favorite. The 100 back will be another barn burner as 4 of the 5 fastest swimmers ever are through to tonite's semi.
  17. Nothing about attempting to interrupt the peaceful transfer of power? Nothing at all? With a memory like that how will you ever pass that competency test so many on here lobbied for in order to vote.
  18. The rare 100 / 400 double followed by water polo.
