Jax is the most exciting wrestler I've seen in a while, but he's gotta tech his way to his first Natty to have a chance. If MM bonuses his way through, I think he'll get it unless Mendez does the same and picks up a couple of pins. But I know nothing.

If Jax meets Seidel in the NCAA’s, it’s almost guaranteed he won’t win by tech and could lose.  Seidel did take him down three times and if it wasn’t for Seidel getting caught once, he would’ve lost the dual match.

after his performance at big12, I say he does without equivocation. I’m not sure of another wrestler who so forcibly uses their legs like that. Once he sinks it in combined with a perfect center of gravity it’s total control and you’re going over. He earned last nights big12 MOW. Probably do it again in a few weeks.

He is not teching Blaze, and it should be very competitive.

I can’t imagine that either but the way he’s using his legs to turn, I can’t see how Blaze stops it once cinched in. Staying away from bottom at all costs keeps it more competitive.

I love Jax as much as the next guy and think he probably wins the title but Seidel could have won that match…no one has been close to beating Jesse or MM. And they have a section of work Jax doesn’t. Next year he’s a favorite but I don’t see it this year.

Blaze has a good track record against Jax. i also think Davino and Jax will be a close match.

Whoever wins 133 should get OW but I think Mitchell/Jesse have the Hodge locked up.

No…stop it

Why not?  Barr has a 100% bonus rate unlike Forrest who doesn't. Yet here we are having a conversation about it even though it's fantasy

I’m not taking anything away from Barr…he’s fantastic but if we’re all being honest here this is a two horse race. If Jesse didn’t at least finish second I’d be astounded…

I know what you're saying but what I'm saying is that this is a stupid thread based on a stupid fantasy so you're incorrect for excluding Barr from Jimmy's stupid thought process

I'm just curious what you think about this. Should the Hodge go back to a higher focus on pins? It would be a lot of fun to watch every top guy with Hodge aspirations actually trying to work for the pin. In the 3 point takedown/4 NF era, I think having the ability to pin would be an interesting separator to use between the top guys when bonus is much more attainable.

It used to be hard to bonus without a turn, and you'd almost never see a tech without NF. Now even the top guys rarely turn because it's so easy to get bonus via catch and release.

Im ok with the criteria set for the Hodge but think it's equally important to highlight/promote the Schalles Award

Blaze has beaten him twice, right? Combined, like, 10 points?  I think folkstyle will tell a different story. Looks to me like Jax is advancing and it's hard to tell if Blaze is, too, because he's so defensively minded.

offense vs offense - the two wrestlers are not the same as of today.

Before last night I would have said the same about Hodge criteria. But after seeing Jax getting turns on top, it made me at least question is. If we want to talk about the most dominant wrestler in college, yeah, getting takedowns is huge, but it really looks like a different level of dominance when you can take a guy down, hold him down, and turn those shoulders towards the mat.

There is definitely a part of me that thinks if you want to be considered the most dominant D1 wrestler, you should probably be more well-rounded than "just" a takedown artist. Maybe it's just because it's so rare to actually see a legitimate turn from the top position today, but when you see someone that can do it, it really stands out because seemingly no one else can.

They could fix a lot by requiring NF as a criteria for Bonus points.  As for what criteria determines "most dominant" it's one of those subjects that never really interested me that much.  I don't find the Hodge Trophy that important or relevant.  I don't remember what Dake's stats were the year he beat Taylor but he sure looked like the most dominant wrestler to me. Meaning I know it when I see it moreso than what a stat line tells me

I will say it now.  Barr will finish no higher than 3rd in Hodge Voting, even if he has 100% bonus this season.  It's crazy but I think it will actually happen.

Wow Jimmy.  What a take.  Something that people have been saying all season due to Mendez, Mesenbrink and Levi.

Your Brandon Cannon #1 seed goof takes are more fun

Levi also has no shot at the Hodge, sadly.

It's Mendez unless he loses at NCAAs unless Mesenbrink finishes the season with 100% bonus.
