The unfortunate is losing endene, having massive holes in recruiting classes, and having outdated coaching mentalities.... That is what happened at 197. It's the same thing that is happening to everything at iowa. It's a good thing Iowa doesn't wrestle other teams 2 times a year. Cause statically they have a down hill trajectory in repeat matches

It would've been fun if Brands ripped Harvey's shirt for this

I'll take that bet. Its a big rivalry in their home gym before 13,000 fans, NCAA's big difference, 3 weigh ins. 3 days of knock down tough wrestling. Don't get me wrong Oklahoma St. is a good team. Ohio State if healed up should put some good points. If there still banged it will be close. I'm hoping Cannon will be 100% by the NCAA's.

Its a comment, that is all. May be right, may be wrong.

There's very few people on the planet that hates Iowa more than I, but even I have to say that Arnold was screwed with those stalling calls.   Some officials call everything on the edge a stall and nothing anywhere else.

Very true.  They don't see anything inside the circle.

"Shooting someone off the mat" is just a stupid nuance in general. Either employ a penalty for going OB or just reset in the middle. The shoot'em out stall is just a softcore push-out rule with unnecessary ambiguity which leads to unnecessary inconsistency.

Yes the inconsistency is the sticking point. no one knows what to expect.

I've seen guys do what Arnold did there which is - defend the move without obviously trying to dive out of bounds - and the action call gets given.   Sometimes not.  the inconsistency is exactly the sticking point for wrestlers, coaches, and fans

It was horrible, but hopefully a wake up call for Gabe to take care of business before SV. Not the first time he lost a close one.

Good point. Ryder didn’t really do anything all match imo which makes the edge calls even worse.

Takedowns these days and stall calls are like an umps strike zone.  It'll always be open to interpretation

That's based on Iowa's over reliance on perfecting a single move.  They don't win a lot of scrambles so once opponents get a feel for that move, their ability to score drops dramatically.

Correct

Iowa mentally - we are gonna make our guys the best at getting to there best position.

Osu and PSU and lots of others- we are going to make our guys better at their worse positions that way it opens up more opportunities to get to your opponents worse positions

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

This should be the attitude for Iowa fans. Instead of whinging about the refs, perhaps more focus should be put on the fact that Iowa only had three wrestlers in the dual who scored a takedown. Kudos to Mikey Caliendo for getting revenge for his earlier loss. Ryder Block gets commended for offense. PK also handled Facundo again. Let's focus on this instead of complaining about the refs and then going over to the other thread to comment on the innuendo about the locker room at PSU.

unfortunately the ways we score points are not as one dimensional as strike or ball.  we'll be stuck with human judgment for a good while longer I reckon

1. It is the attitude of Iowa fans

2. Those three wrestled well, but also give credit to kale peterson for hanging in there with vega.

Arnold would be in national title contention if he would have gone anywhere but Iowa.  8 of his 11 dual matches were one takedown matches.     Not everyone buys into a coach's philosophy (see Beau Bartlett) but an offensive coach who pushed him to take advantage of his speed and power was what he needed.

Idk about that.  Wrestled the same when at Blair (Didn't watch him his Sr year in Iowa so can't say).  Reminds me a lot of the same issues Marsteller ran into when he got to college.

No idea how Vega hung with KP. I actually thought Peterson had him dead to rights when he had that half in deep. He's so much bigger and it's crazy that he couldn't brute force Vega over.

He's not at his natural weight. He will be a serious AA contender at 174 next year

These young cowboys look really good and will make noise at the NCAA's. They'll challenge for a title starting next year and beyond. This is what everyone wanted for the last 10 years, and between OK ST and OSU, and next year VA TECH, we got it. Unfortunately for the wrestling community and the majority of the forum posters, Iowa is losing swagger and sway.

I think Arnold needs to transfer, obviously this is entirely my opinion and all based on feels but I sense the coaching staff doesn't really respect him other than the points he gets for the team.

Marstellar's issues were off the mat and started long before he got to college.

I realize Arnold wasn't super offensive at Sem but instead of increasing, it's gotten much, much worse.

What a brain fart.  It was Sem.  Anyways, Arnold (although different) has also battled off the mat issues.  I don't think Iowa itself is the issue and another place would've been better.  Maybe Mizzou
