That's just changing for the sake of changing...

Has potential to drastically hurt the wrestle just to get to ot gameplan.

Not if no one cares about duals anymore and only NCAAs.

It would be 2 team pts at ncaa as well. Did I really have to clear that up for you?

Not particularly.   So winning in ot or by 1 pt is equal to a pin in the championship bracket?

Win by 1 = 2 team points

Win in SV or Rideouts but not by pin = same 2 team points

No other change

At NCAAs that seems like way to much 🙂

New idea.  Let’s change the scoring rules every year in perpetuity.  That way we can never compare Anything.    Every time you watch a replay you have to go back go a quick college class to get a refresher course on what the rules are…. And let’s guarantee wkn can’t make any more graphs because it’s far to complicated to know what’s going on in the sport any longer.

While we’re at it let’s change the name of the sport to “I can’t keep up with the rule changes any longer”.  ….   And humans will still stall and have close matches because as we all know these athletes are super talented.  The sport is hard.  And humans get tired after vigorous exercise.

Legislating more scoring isn’t going to work.  It hasn’t worked.   It won’t work.

Sparks just offered this up. I like it.

Fortunately Sparky is not on the rules committee.  Unfortunately he is a wrestling announcer.  Fortunately he only announces b10 matches and ESPN is sparky free.

I like it.  Also: (i) in OT, if no score after 2 minutes SV its a tie and both teams get 2; (ii) to minimize ties, in OT there is a 1 point push out rule.  Current system after firstr OT sucks like PK's in soccer - too arbitrary.

So, if the match ends 21 to 20?

Or you have a 12 point tie going into overtime with the last six points for one wrestler scored in the last 20 seconds of regulation?

I tend to agree with you but do you really think theres nothing we can do? I think there are things we can do but people would go nuts if i described them.

I think the sport is fine.  It’s the best it’s been in our history as far as viewership.  I mean we argue over wrestling all season … clearly we like it lol.

I agree its fine. I do think it could be better. Thats any sports fan. I used to watch UFC, not so much anymore and while i enjoyed it i had legitamite complaints. Fouls go unpunished, 3 judges make it too easy to get it wrong, etc. And those are easy fixes. I dont neccesarily think wrestling is as easy but i beleive its possible to improve. Not with the step out though fuck that.

Freestyle is not nor has ever been a better product.  The forever freestylers in the industry who want to slowly or quickly make folk into freestyle will ruin the sport.   Quick 5 second flippy flippy 10-0 tf or whatever they call it isn’t entertainment.  90 degree turns are not entertainment.

i did like competing in freestyle.   Loved it actually but it’s such a small minority that do.   It isn’t as watchable of a product.   It’s the reason we have tennis or whatever during the day on tv during the worlds or Olympics and have to get up at 3am to watch worlds.  We are the $ market in the world.    If we watched it in mass wouldn’t be on at 3am

If anything make it.

2 points for a decision

3 points for a major

4 points for a tech

And 6 for a pin

Trying to game 1 point matches wont work. And i dont think what i just said would change 1 point matches but it would make pins even more premium and exciting. But id leave it as is.
