Below is a list of the total AA's by Team since 2000. Was a fun little project I threw together.

Some interesting facts:

Browns last AA was in 2014, Buffalo in 2004, F&M in 2014, Sacred Heart in 2007 and SIUE in 2017.

Of the teams that have not had an AA since 2000, 2 have been dropped (Cal Baptist and Clev. State)

Of the 70 AAs for Mizzou 12.85 or 13% have been NC. Cox-3, Askren/KOT-2, Ellis/Max Askren-1. Statistically middle of the pack ish I’d guess.

Interesting.  Of Cornell's 83, 22.8% (19) have been champions.  Dake/Yianni-4, Lee/Vito/Dean-2, Bozak/Garrett/Leen/Nickerson/Simaz-1 each.

Ohio State has 16 NCs out of 84 (19%).  Michigan has 7 out of 82 (8%:  yikes!).  Nebraska with 5 out of 82 (6%).

No idea what that means, but Missouri is likely very high up in percentage of AAs that were champions.

You caught it before I edited the post. It’s actually 7%. Which isn’t great. I also forgot about Drake Houdashelt being a NC.

Isn't that 10 national champs (3 JC+2 BA + 2 KO + 1 ME + 1 DH + 1 MA = 10) out of 70 AA?  That's not 7%.  It's 14.3%

I come up with 98 AAs for Brands not including 2020 AAs.  Only three teams in mksioszk2’s list have more.  Iowa 133, PSU 119, OSU 117, and MN 113.  Brands averaged 5.44 AAs per season which is more than any team and more than his predecessor Zalesky 4.86.

I come up with 132 total AAs 200-2025 inclusive for Iowa with 98 under Brands and 34 under Zalesky.  This is one less than mksioszk2.  I do not know where the discrepancy lies.

Certainly could be an error in the formula I used. I do total 80 AA's for each of the seasons since 2000 but I may have auto filled Iowa with Iowa State or something of that nature.

Since Cael took over in 2010 Penn State has 96 all americans which is 80.6% of their total AA's since 2000 and in that same time Iowa has 84 by my count.

I added up the number from the AA page in the Iowa Wrestling media guide, but could have made a mistake.  Or it’s possible there is an error in the guide.

Brands also had 2 AAs at Virginia Tech making his total as a head coach 2005-2025 inclusive an even 100 by my count.

Sanderson had 15 at ISU.  This makes his total 2007-2025 inclusive 111.  That’s 11 more in two fewer NCAA tournaments, but those were also the two years Brands was at VT.  It’s 13 more from 2007-2025.

I will maintain that Boise St being cut for a failed pet project of a baseball team is the greatest travesty in my almost 30 years on this earth.

Despite not having a team for almost 10 years they still have more AA's since 2000 than good teams like Pitt, Rutgers, Wyoming, SDSU, West Virginia, and Purdue.

I will never forgive Bob Kustra for what he did

On the other side of the spectrum would you say that JMU cutting wrestling (and some other sports) to schift resources and focus to football was a huge win for the school?  They won an FCS championship, moved up to D1, and this year made the FBS playoff.

And their coach took over at perennial doormat Indiana and won the NCAA Championship in year 2. Fairly incredible accomplishment.

hard one for me as a JMU alum. thrilled with the success of the football team, but wrestling getting cut still stings.

From the schools perspective I would think they would call it a win. As a wrestling fan I don't like seeing any programs get cut. It's a double-edge sword really, on one hand wrestling programs are generally pretty cheap to run but on the other hand they don't generate any revenue compared to football and basketball.

I think that's why Willie beats the drum of endow your program so much so you don't end up in the situation of a Boise State or Old Dominion. Even if you're at a big P4 institution like a Penn State, Iowa, Oklahoma State I don't know why you wouldn't make it a priority to do that. Obviously there's other factors now with NIL, more scholarships and roster management.

Using this info as one of the reasons to keep Tom as head coach is gaslighting.

Agreed. I put down my pitchfork this week. I'm hoping, after 3 years of sitting in front of a camera telling everyone that "we gotta shoot!" Tom and Terry have somehow made a miracle happen in the last week, and learned how to get every individual wrestler ready for Nebraska. However if they get no offense going against the huskers. I'm picking the pitch fork back up

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

It's a effing shame that the school's own website stops listing All-Americans in 2012.

Mitchell Port and AJ Schopp were both three time All-Americans since then with Sean Russell their last AA in 2017.

Port beat Retherford at ncaa's that year.
