I think the next time they face off it will be very close in reality, but maybe not in the scoreboard. They have such contrasting styles that there could be a lot of action and points scored or a very low scoring match with lots of hand fighting.

I think it's an incredibly hard matchup for Jax unless he can find something he gets to consistently against Marcus. I want to say he needs it to be a match with a lot of exchanges but at the same time Marcu's ability to find the corner off of reattacks is as good as I have ever seen. Alternatively, I have seen Marcus lose twice since he's really ascended levels in matches where there was not a ton of action and in both instances he was at a severe strength disadvantage with Uulu and Vito and while I think Jax has good leverage I do not think he is stronger than Marcus when it comes to positional battles and hand fighting. The main difference I see how vs 2023 and 2024 that I think works in Jax's favor is that he can attack both sides without needing elbow control which he could not do at a high level back then.

I would not count anything from 2020. How old were they at that time?

exactly i believe both are currently 19 + 3 months (Jax)  and Blaze is 19 + 2 months

so roughly at the time of Super 32,  earlier part of the year they both would have been both been turning 13!

I also think will have a harder time cutting down to the same weights as Blaze (133/141), his frame wants to grow, its not a far fetch theory that he properly fills out to 149 his sophmore (141) Junior and Senior years (149) also I am quit certain a RS will come about somehow and now we could be talking about Bo Bassett vs Jax Forrest

Actually 2+ years is a very long time for a teenager to develop and improve.

By that same argument Marcus should not have been able to reverse a Major decision loss 13 months prior. Or Jax should not have been able to beat Ben at the open.

I think "Pinnacle" (as I) was referring to the 2020 super 32 at which point they both would have been turning either 13 or 14........

Did they ever meet up in folkstyle as 5 year olds?

I think it depends on what Jax's gameplan is. He tends to always wrestle that wildman style but against Vito he changed it up and slowed it down and was able to 2-0 him. I think that Jax has really evolved into a more consistent and well-rounded guy since they last faced off, but I also could see Marcus being his kryptonite. I also think Folk vs Free is going to be a huge factor because we don't know how they stack up in Top/Bottom & Par Terre at this point

The PSU way...making sure we don't get to see the pay-per-view matches until there is no avoiding it, either at conferences or NCAAs. Does this mean we possibly don't get Welsh-Ferrari this Friday? I'd hate if that ended up being true.

It looks to me that PSU is wrestling all their starters every dual. When I watch Iowa there is always 2 -4 starters sitting out.  Just my observation.  But please fact check that.

Yeah I’m hard pressed to recall a time when PSU held out starters that weren’t obviously injured. I don’t get into the whole ducking thing anyway, unless it’s blatant. I’m not in the rooms, I don’t know what’s going on with the kids and the coaches. And whatever it is, they’re doing what they feel is best for their wrestler/team, which is their job, NOT appeasing fans or lunatics on message boards. My thoughts on the matter… don’t matter.

You may criticize Cael/PSU for their load management style (selfishly I don’t like it either, I wanna see these guys wrestle!) that gets referred to here as ducking competition, you’re entitled to your opinion, going thru a Big 10 schedule, the Big Ten tourney and the NCAAs with the results they’ve had, I’ll let Cael run his team how he sees fit, you CANNOT argue with the results he’s had. BUT they don’t seem to hold kids out when they do actually wrestle.

I think this is a great take.  The Jax of last summer is way different that the Jax of a year and a half ago.  He has gained maturity on the mat.  I think Blaze's fundamentals against a more controlled Jax will result in a low scoring, but still exciting match that can go either way.

Interesting interview with Rocco Welch conducted by Marcus Blaze and Connor Pierce - posted about an hour ago.

The podcast also features 3 other recent past interviews with William Henchel, Nate Desmond and PJ Duke.

I found these interviews with these elite wrestlers very interesting.

They held out their entire team at NDI. Forfeited from the tournament.

Yes Ben will have a lot say about this. Blaze, Forest, Davino and Byrd. This should be some great wrestling. Davino wrestles Blaze on Feb. 13th. Then you have Byrd, Davino and Blaze at the Big Ten Championships. I'm surprised Byrd won't see any of these wrestlers until March 7th and 8th.

There's a LOT of guys who are going to have a say in this. That weight class? I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if either won it OR if they got knocked out and didn't place. I don't expect that to happen, but... they could easily lose to a Crookham or someone in the Quarters, then a guy like Siedel on the backside.

Just an incredible weight class.

Based on what? Beating 4-4 Ayala? (Would be 3-5 if not saved by a phantom stall point against Ramirez)

Ok... well, in fairness, he's lost to Fugitt(4th), Byrd(defending Champ) and then Frost for his other losses.

I don't really think you can argue anyone's "the best" beyond Byrd or Crookham based on their College history.

Someone wants to argue it's Davino, I don't have a real strong argument otherwise. Old High School Matches won't sway me.

It's just a stacked weight and I think there are 5-6 guys I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see win and then a couple more that would be only mildly surprising.

They held out their entire team at Cliff Keen, too.  Oh, wait, you can't forfeit from a tournament you did not enter.

I like this game of Duck Duck.

Ohio State was there, and they didn’t duck ISU like Carl did

What I find very interesting about this weight is that I would say there are really only 3 guys whos top game will be a factor and only 2 that are probably super relevant. Knox, Forrest, Seidel being the 3 Jax was very elite on top in high school but he also gets himself in trouble a decent about looking for that ball in chain. I think Seidel is the best blend of safe turns (his tilt series) and riding and then Knox is a good leg rider but probably cannot keep himself in the match against the best guys on his feet. Marcus has also shown a much better top game than I thought we would see out of the gate I think hes just a super strong kid.

Ben Davino

This guy get's it.  Davino is the real deal.  If Byrd is opposite Davino and Forrest in the bracket, that is a crime.

Penn State mysteriously avoided all the good teams there as well. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that their non-conference schedule is softer than baby ----
