Opining on the upcoming OSU/PSU dual is totally understandable given the match-ups, but where's the chatter about Iowa and their chances against PSU in Carver-Hawkeye and their match against Ohio State? Both events are huge and occur before OSU/PSU. Are the results such a forgone conclusion that the only discussion will be how big the scoring margin is? Do the Hawks have a chance in either dual? Asking more knowledgeable people than myself. And, they still have to go to OK ST before Big 10's and Nationals. 4-5 dual loses are realistic.

I think Iowa will be much more competitive with tOSU the 2nd time around and could maybe win. I don't think they give up 6 at 125 and another 6 at heavy again.

The Iowa path to victory isn't much different in terms of odds than tOSU.  PSU will be favored in 6 or 7 of the matches.  The odds of Iowa flipping 2 or 3 may be more difficult than the matches tOSU would need to flip against PSU.

Well, Wrestestat has PSU beating Iowa 18-12. I looked at their picks, and they were reasonable except for Endene over Barr, and I think Keuter beats Mirasola, so that evens out. If anything PSU will pick up a few extra points in all likelihood due to major decisions.

Wrestlestat has the Hawkeyes beating OSU 19-12. Looks questionable to me, as it predicts Ayala beating Davino, when Davino beat Ayala 10-4 at National Duals. I'd give Iowa the edge at home, 16-15 or so.

What weights will Iowa be favored at against PSU? 184? Heavy? 125 and 133?

184 and 285.

Penn State picks up MDs at 149, 157, 174, 197. Could see Blaze putting up an MD on Ayala, too. DEC at 125, 141. If Mesenbrink is on a heater, 165 could be bonus.

No Wrestlestat has Iowa beating OSU 16-15.   OSU may have a couple lineup changes that could be a big factor in the Feb 22 dual.  The meet being in Stillwater will also be a factor and sure to be a nail-biter to the end.

Iowa is very much still in the conversation. They just landed a major commitment today, Fargo champ. <whispering from off stage> Women’s wrestling? <more whispering> Ok then. Wrong forum,

Well they’re still in the conversation when it’s a sub topic of other teams. Like the PSU dual which is 7 days away. 7 is also Iowa’s likely ceiling in said dual. They’ll probably win 184 - it’ll be 4-1 SV or 1-1,2-1 in UTBs. Think a battle of watching grass grow vs paint drying. And if Keuter doesn’t have some continuing nagging injury, he might MIGHT major Mirasola. PSU is likely to win all the other matches, many with bonus. Same thing will happen in 5 wks vs tOSU, except less bonus on PSUs part. So these other programs are very relevant still, when talking about how bad their duals vs PSU are likely to be. I kid, I kid…not really.

I'm having a hard time seeing Ayala beating either of Davino or Blaze.

... Forrest?

Jax is better wrestler, but sometimes it takes some matches to get used to the comp going up a level.

Is Frost a good warmup?

Iowa has fallen to irrelevancy.  It's a women's wrestling school now.

We've seen how they've done vs tOSU and even the pastry can't figure out a way his duckeyes can beat Penn State.   The only real question is if everything can go rightA for them again and they can squeak by OKST.

Iowa was the most recent team to win a championship and has had more AAs and finalists than any team not named PSU. I don recall if they have more individual champs, Ill have to update the Google sheet, but it's definitely razor thin (other than PSU, to be clear). If that makes Iowa irrelevant, then what does that make the other teams? It's fine if you think that PSU is the only "relevant" team. But if that's the case then it's pretty weird to dog on Iowa when, as of this point, every other team has performed worse

Pretty sure that is not true.  Betting OSU has more than either Iowa or PSU.

Good catch. I should have been more precise in my post. I was only talking about the time since Metcalf, which is when I started following the post (don't badger me, I was still a teenager)

No they are never out of it thats for sure, with all the talent they posses and will have in the future plus the advantage of the top noch coaching staff they are always a contender! IOWA is still a part of the "standard" in wrestling just not the big dog!  now a days the TRANSFER PORTAL and NIL can change things instantly....here says me!

Happy Friday to all....... lets consider tOSU this year and than look at a 2027 (so this year and next, im too uneducated to go past that)

tOSU as many maybe even most would consider to be a major obstacle for PSU winning it all again (team title) this year, with 10 potentially All-American they still seeming will only be within 10 points, head to head it will be very interesting! TEAM IOWA CAN GET BACK TO THAT LEVEL AGAIN "being in the converstaion" just not this year...

How about next year lets take a quick peak of course PSU will loose the hammer in Levi but will be fully recharged yet once again and looking like winning it possibly again in 2027 with OK ST as the likely title buster!

2027 PSU line up could be similar to this (with errors im sure) that a strong possibility of 5 National Champs and 8-10 AA's with Hodge winner Mesenbrink leading the way

125~ Lilledahl (Desmond very tuff weight cut)

133~ Blaze/Ono

141~ Ono/Blaze (Davis)

149~Van Ness (Davis)

157~Duke/Sealey (Kasak)

165~Kasak/MM (probably up to messenbrink and what he wants to do)

174~MM/Kasak

184~Welsh/Cunnigham (Henkle)

197~Barr (Mirasola)

HWT~Mirasola (Transfer possible?)

In the last 15 years, Iowa's had what, Clark win one, Spencer win 3 then the historic choke and they bought Buchanan to win them one.  A school like Cornell or even Oklahoma State would consider that a failure.

The vaunted "Iowa Style" that kids used to want to emulate is now push, push, push while Carver yells "stalling".  The dream score now 2-1 with escapes and a stall point or 4-1 with an OT TD.  Kids don't dream about wrestling for Iowa.

Even if we keep your cracker jack and incomplete list of champs that Iowa has had for the past "15 years", no sane and rational fan of OKST or Cornell would consider that a failure.

Iowa has set itself up with some very solid recruiting classes for the next 2 years. More work is needed to keep pace with the competition (everyone knows OKST has monster classes) but to claim that nobody dreams of wrestling at Iowa is yet another falsehood.

Now all that doesn't mean that I am pleased with how things have played out (especially since 2021) or that I ebullient about the current trajectory. There are (numerous) valid criticisms that can be made against the program. But I've seen enough of your posting history to know that that is not what you are interested in. You have a very obvious agenda that involves hating on Iowa at every opportunity you get, perhaps as an attempt to offload your misery, idk. Hating is your prerogative but if you're gonna spew nonsense then it shouldnt come as a surprise when someone corrects you.

This made me laugh lol. This is pretty accurate

WrestleStat often posts head-scratching and even absurd predictions based on their own data.  Here's the prediction at 285 between PSU and Iowa:  Cole Mirasola over Ben Keuter 6-4 despite the fact that Mirasola is 1-2 against common opponents (including Feldman) and Keuter is 4-1.

Is there a way that they can correct this stuff?

Mirasola could conceivably pull out a close win, but the predictive data doesn't support that result right now.
