Hopefully Smith lets those guys at 149 wrestle.

Yes!   And hopefully, the winner is the starter for the remainder of the season.  Also looks like we have a new starter at 157.

Had a feeling. Smith is loyal to his guys. If he lets them go and Seth wins, it’s starts controversy and he avoids that it seems at all cost. Plus, Edmond was the point scorer for the team. It’s a tight race with UNC, he gets those points now. But that’s the problem, we as fans don’t care about a SS title, we want the best team on the mat come March. We don’t know who those guys are when Smith does shit like this.

Exactly...what a load of shit!   I'm so sick of this in wrestling.   If Edmond can't wrestle and stay up without getting his ass kicked by a true freshmen, that is his problem.

No matter how much I don’t like it you can be assured the coaches as well as the entire team know who is better.  I would be willing to bet Mendoza would put it on Edmond.  Edmond  just doesn’t have the gas tank to last in a 7 minute match.  But as has been stated Smith is going to start who he wants to start.

I believe this whole heartedly. But we as Tiger fans needed to see this one. Again there was no way Smith was going to allow it to happen. No what happens at 157 will be interesting. Both Conway and Travis lose to Williams by near identical scores. Both beat Root UNC, Conway has started most of the year. If Travis is winning in the room and takes over the spot without a wrestle off would be contradicting and hypocritical. We shall see.

Could this weekend have gone any worse for Iowa?  They catch flak from thier own fanbase for not sending starters as people spent big bucks to attend then a starter they did send gets beaten badly... Brands shows his true self with Ramos... their prize recruit loses twice... Arnold loses....What's the bright spot?

Jordan Williams was the bright spot. He wrestled well all weekend.

Not sure I see it this way. It just makes sense to let Edmond finish out his last year of eligibility and preserve Mendoza's RS. Edmond will qualify and earn some points. Even if Mendoza is better right now (definitely has a higher ceiling), the added points at NCAAs won't make much difference as the team still won't be in the running for a trophy (or likely even a top 10). Mendoza will have the year to continue to improve and then 4 years as the starter (barring injury or transfer portal).

Travis, on the other hand, can't red shirt. If he's the better guy, you start him. Or what was the point of bringing him in?

Without a public match, obviously we won’t see who’s better between any of them. But in this scenario Travis and Conway have similar results. If they are that close Vs common opponents why bring in Teague and not just let Conway go. Teague to me would have to be beating Conway by major minimum, everyday for me to start him over Conway. What upside does he have over Conway right now? Without looking it up, I don’t remember Teague exactly being a world beater at OkSt.

In no way am I crapping on Travis. It just doesn’t make sense to bring someone in to replace someone when we have that same caliber of a wrestler already in the room starting. It’s a wash to me, not much of an improvement either way. Hope I have to eat crow here but I don’t think either has AA potential.

Two guys using a year of eligibility no matter what. You start the better guy. Travis may not be a world beater, but he's had better career results. I've gotta assume that Smith would have told him he'd have a chance to earn the spot, or he wouldn't have transferred the last semester of his senior year. It would've been nice to see a bigger difference vs. common opponents, for one or the other, though.

There wasn't really one. Brands interview at the end of the tournament saying "I want the this tournament to keep growing" while they singlehandedly made sure that this was the weakest SS yet is comical at best, and sit and brag that he didn't wrestle all the starters because they had reasons that no one needs to know about... What were the reasons....iowa starters should have might light work of most of the competition there and he sat them... Them saying that they want the tournament to grow next year....how do they not realize they are the reason it's isn't growing

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

I have no knowledge, but I feel like there is a decent chance that Travis just wanted to go back home and was willing to compete for the spot rather than certainly being on the bench behind Robideau. I don't know that Mizz brought Travis in as much as he wanted to be back home for his final few months of college.
