If you had to pick one team from your home state, for a single season, to represent your state in either a dual meet or individual tournament, what team would it be? If you remember the wrestlers and their weights, feel free to list.

I'll start with Missouri.

My pick is the 2005-2006 Oak Park squad. I believe this was the year that they went to the St. Ed's Elite 8 duals and the Lepic duals. Ranked inside the top 5 nationally that year, IIRC.

103: Mac Bailey 33-1 (Fr.) - 1st

112: Marty Uehlin 29-12 (So.) - DNP

119: Joe Green 36-8 (Fr.) - 2nd

125: Jacob Nay 42-7 (Sr.) - 2nd

130: Scott O'Donnell 44-4 (Jr.) - 1st

135: Dylan Joiner 43-3 (So.) - 1st

140: Zack Bailey 18-0 (Sr.) - 1st

145: Shane Nay 32-2 (Jr.) - 1st

152: Ray Hall 40-9 (So.) - 3rd

160: Mat Koelling 39-10 (Sr.) - 3rd

171: Brent Haynes 46-3 (So.) - 2nd

189: Kolton Kono 31-10 (So.) - 2nd

215: Eric Bradshaw 26-17 (Sr.) - DNP

275: Elijah Madison 22-4 (So.) - 3rd

Oak was so dominant during their run. I don’t remember everyone on the team, but I’d like to see how that Platte County team with Dickey, Verdoon and Sherman that broke Oakvilles scoring record stacks up vs OP. The FHC team that took 2nd was deep also. Probably not on OP or PC level, but man they were good. Bradley, both Wilbourns, Wood, Dickhous, Avery etc

Indiana

I have to go with Brownsburg's team last year

7 Champs and 11 placers in a one-class state tournament, broke (destroyed) the state record for points with 243, which previously was 174.

Born and raised Hoosier but haven't lived there since '97, however I follow closely and watch the state finals as much as I can.   That run last year by Brownsburg was definitely one for the history books.  Indiana has a lot of wrestling talent and to dominate a one class state tournament like that is extremely impressive.

The Mooresville Regional that they come out of is insane - Brownsburg, Avon, and Center Grove. Throw them in the Evansville Semi State and it's a meat grinder.

This year's team state for 3A that are in that semi state - Franklin Community (1st), Bloomington South (2nd), Columbus East (4th), and Floyd Central (6th). At 5A, Brownsburg got 2nd (upset by Crown Point), Center Grove (3rd), Mater (4th), and Avon (5th)

Makes it more impressive to come out of a semi state like that and break records (vs the Fort Wayne Semi State)

The no wrestle backs make that Regional and Semi-State even harder. There’s a top 5 match up at 132 this Saturday in the ticket rounds. Two future D1 wrestlers and one won’t even make it to State it’s nuts

The best team I recall watching in the last 25 years in the state of Illinois is the 2019-20 Montini Catholic squad.  They qualified all 14 weights at state; nine in the semi finals; five state champs (tied state record,) and placed 11 out of 14 weights with everyone only losing to a medalist.  They were just as dominate as a dual team outscoring their four opponents 227-31 in the dual team state tournament including a 37-9 thrashing of tenth in the nation Chicago Mt. Carmel.  Not to mention the following stretch of duals to finish 21-0 in the regular season.

12/31 Buchanan, CA W 26 24
12/31 Gilroy, CA W 45 24
1/9 Aurora (Marmion Academy) W 53 15
1/11 Detroit (Central Catholic), MI W 32 31
1/11 Davison, MI W 42 19
1/11 Brighton, MI W 47 12
1/15 DeKalb W 62 3
1/18 Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) W 55 9
1/18 Broken Arrow, OK W 46 18
2/18 Lake Highland Prep, FL W 33 17

Just an incredible amount of D1 talent on this roster:

106    Joe Fernau 10    34-9  1st
113    Nick Gonzalez 11    37-13 3rd
120    Nain Vazquez 11    36-13 4th
126    Dylan Ragusin 12    41-3 1st
132    Ethan Stiles 9    27-11 3rd
138    Braden Stauffenberg 10 32-18 6th
145    Fidel Mayora 12    42-6 3rd
152    Joe Roberts 12    39-5 1st
160    Brayden Thompson 9    37-11 3rd
170    Cooper Wettig 10    29-11 1-2 DNP (lost to 3rd and 4th)
182    Trevor Swier 12    40-6 1st
195    Nathan Wemstrom 10    17-16 1-2 DNP (lost to the 2nd and 3rd)
220    Josh LaBarbera 12    38-8 1st
285    Colin Baker 33-19 1-2 DNP (lost to 3rd and 6th)

Any NYers in here care to chime in? I’d imagine it could be one of the Hilton teams from the early to mid 2010s. Had Yianni, maybe a Kropman or 2, I think a few Deprezs’ went through there at that time too but this is showing my age

⁶2011 St John's MI ranked #2 Nationally

Had 7 Nationally Ranked Wrestlers

#7 Zac Hall #9 Jacob Schmitt #12 Josh Pennell #1 Taylor Massa #1 Ben Whitford #11 Jordan Wohlfort Payne Hayden #11 also Freshman Logan Massa who would be Nationally Ranked the following season and the top overall recruit by 2014.  They went 32-1 loan loss was the Saint Edwards 38 to 16

The 2012 team was stacked as well and ranked 7th in the country in basically had the same lineup minus Taylor Massa who graduated.. that year they Beat Montini out of Illinois and lost to St. Eds 36-28 missing Whitford due to injury as well for that match up

Any Floridians got a solid answer? I would imagine one of the Brandon teams from that legendary run from the 80s-early 2000s or maybe an underrated South Dade team? Lake Highland Prep?

Gotta be a LHP team and I don't think it's particularly close although the golden age of Brandon was before my time so I'm not as familiar with them. When I competed they weren't wrestling at prep nationals yet and would roll up to the state tournament and walk through everyone. My team made the state dual finals opposite them two years in a row and won two matches in two tries, both at heavyweight, one of them being a forfeit.  The 2025 prep national team would be my pick but I think their 2018 lineup is right there with them.

2025

106 Max Co

113 Liam Davis

120 Marlo Clark

126 Adalas Ortiz

132 Clint Plotner

138 Jayce Paridon

144 Charlie Desena

150 Zeno Moore

157 Lucas Boe

165 Claudio Torres

175 Miguel Rojas

190 Robert Kucharczk

215 Alex Smith

285 Jacob Levy

2018

106 Danny Nini

113 Jake Wohltman

120 Nic Bouzakis

126 Ryan Chauvin

132 Bailey Flanagan

138 Noah Castillo

145 Joey Silva

152 Cameron Monzadeh

160 Kai Bele

170 Max Cosmides

182 Erich Byelick

195 Logan Andrew

220 Ben Goldin

285 Curtis Ruff

It's close. 2003 Brandon was a great team. Ryan Joyce, Cesar Grajales, Rocky Cozart, Matt Juncal, Rashad Goff, and David Craig all won state titles. Keith Simmons, Tom Hutchinson, and Alejandro Figueroa were state finalists. This was coming off of a legendary Fargo run where they had 7 Junior finalists.

2009 Brandon was another great team. Ryan Renkey, Rossi Bruno, Clark Glass, Eric Grajales, Kevin Timothy, Joe Cozart, and Mike Ettore all won state titles. Tyler Liberatore, Mike Lefevre, Wally Figaro, Kyle Koziel, and Zaq Berridge all placed.
