Probably not a title contender yet. Feldman worked him in the dual last year. I think he will be firmly behind Ferrari, Trumble, Bastida, Ghadiali to start the year. Feldman was a tough matchup for him. He will be in a tier of about 10 guys (Kueter, Feldman, Taylor, Luffman, Pitzer, Mullen, Doucet, Amos, Catka, Hopke) pushing to make the podium.

Yeah... I guess if I see him as 4th, to me that's a title contender.

But that was the only part of that projection I disagreed with.

I agree if you have a realistic shot of beating the three ahead of you. Which I don't see a path for him to beat Yonger, Ferrari, and even Trumble.

I agree 100%, but which of those 7 do you predict to lose? MM and LH are locks. Barr is very close to a lock imo. I truly believe Blaze and Duke are the best guys in their weights (which is why the coaching staff is opting to not RS either of them because they have great options there in Nagao/Davis and Kasak). On the same note I think LL and SVN are the best guys in their weights too. So do I think they'll realistically have 7 champs, probably not because we all know how that tournament goes. But I don't feel comfortable to pick any of those 7 to lose.

  • In the 33 seed era (2019-2025) PSU has had 18 top seeded wrestlers at the NCAA tournament.
  • 13 of the 18 (72.2%) have gone on to win a title.
  • Assuming they have 10 top seeded wrestlers this year the odds of winning 7 titles is 26.4%.

As an aside, the rest of the field has gone 14 for 42 as a #1 seed (33.3%). Wild.

I mean, I think he has a realistic shot of beating those guy. I don't think his chances of beating TWO when you add...Taylor who's bigger, Feldman, Kueter with his length, that's more my issue.

But maybe I'm wrong. I'd just have him more in the Rd12-AA range than a guy who loses in the Semi's or Wrestle's back to the Consolation Semis.
