Glad he's wanting to make sure a team reverts to a nickname that is a racial slur, and that another pro team goes back to a mascot that is an offensive caricature.

He must really like native Americans, after all who can forget his ad campaign when they wanted to build a casino that might take away from the casinos he bankrupted.

Agreed. I don't care at all what sports teams' names are. Not even a little bit. I've got more important things to worry about.

But I do wonder why our President cares. I would think he would have many more important things to worry about.

Unless he doesn't.

Seems the oldest President ever elected, who has mush for brains at this point, is being manipulated by those that funded his campaign. He does what they say and is allowed his little tirades about "team names" and "flush toilets" and confusing the current reality and history with Biden as if he was still his political opponent.

Like it or not, our President has been relegated to being a sideshow. Just a fat orange puppet with volume turned up to 11.

His Project 2025 team is clearly running the office. Yes, the same team that got him elected. The team with deep ties to all federal departments and agencies. And when I say 'deep', I mean 'deep.'

How do you all feel about the Project 2025 goals?

If you aren't aware, you should read up and become aware fast. Because it's happening. And you might be unknowingly supporting it. If you care at all, pull your head out of the sand and learn what's happening.

I get the distinct feeling that if he could strip Native Americans of US citizenship, he would. He's shown his disdain for them and other brown people over the years.

Lot of pieces to this:

1) Many many leaders in the Native American nation, including the family of the chief of the Blackfeet tribe who's image inspired the logo before the Redskins name was removed, want the name changed back.  Many, many leaders never wanted the name change in the first place, as they felt it as a memorial rather than the degradation that was being hyped for cultural political points in the time of kneeling in African garb.

2) Don't pretend the President isn't addressing the economy, immigration, foreign policy and other issues that were hot topics of the election.  Not everyone may agree with how he is addressing those issues, in some cases myself included, but don't pretend he's not spending time on them

3) The President of the United States should not be involved in the naming of NFL franchises and using threats to try to hold up stadium deals, particularly a republican President, when the party is supposed to be about small government.

1. Using that term is basically like using the N word. It's not acceptable. Some people might not have a problem with it, but many do. Names change all the time. We had a kerfuffle about it locally because they changed a bunch of street names, school names and park names because somebody figured out the people those things were named after had been members of the KKK.

2. I don't think he really spends much time on anything. Snorting Adderall maybe?

3. Agreed.

I didn't talk about 'some people', I talked specifically about "many many leaders in the native american nation", including the family of which the mascot was inspired, and what they felt about it.  Conveniently disregarding that and shifting to "some people" doesn't change the fact.  They're opinion carries a little more weight than those just looking for cultural political points, no matter how hard you try.

What a dumb President, once again. He should stay in his lane; let the league and teams do what they want w their own sport. What a profound idea, huh?

Its all populism w this guy.

That cover should mention his cheating at golf (and life, in general).

What a fat pig.

It's a select few, and the native organization behind them wanting to change the name back was funded by the former owner of the team.

Sports Illustrated (SI) investigated the various pro-Redskins organizations that spoke or wrote on behalf of Daniel Snyder in court, and found that most were receiving multi-thousand dollar donations from the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation (WROAF), which was founded by Snyder. Specifically, SI found that NAGA received $68,360 from WROAF shortly before an amicus curiae the group made in favor of retaining the Redskins name went public.

Cherry picking at its finest.   Washington spent millions and millions into various native american tribes and organizations under various pervues.  Sports Illustrated was very much on one side of the story when they wrote their articles on the subject.....during this time of cultural political war....and for the most part wrote on the one side of that agenda.  Except for the one time they even admitted 90% of native americans responding to an election survey, that was not at all operated by Washington, was not at all offended by the name and logo.   No one said every NA was against the name change, but objective viewing shows that the majority were.   Like usual it is not typically the majority, but the loudest, who are most heard.

We can cherry pick all day to find something to suit 'our side' but at the end of the day it was a move made to satisfy the loud few, not the majority.  But that said, I do agree the President of the United States has no business getting into team names, let alone threatening holding up franchise progress.  And I'm a Cowboy's fan.....I'm not interested in them getting a new stadium!!!

Aggregating the results for easier comparison to the Washington Post 2016 poll, 49% of self-identified Native Americans said the Washington Redskins name was offensive, 38% said not offensive and another 13% were indifferent. But it was thought offensive by 67% of respondents who were heavily engaged in their native or tribal cultures, 60% of young people, and 52% of those with tribal affiliations.

One of the largest, if not the largest, tribe is definitely against it.

You must not have seen the South Park Washington redskins episode.  Let me know if you want season and episode #.  It’s a gem.
