I.e. who will be the next David Taylor-esque hire who will either invigorate an existing powerhouse program or elevate a second tier program to the upper echelon?

Some obvious candidates:

  • Spencer Lee (though he has said he really wants to be Iowa's next AD)
  • Jordan Burroughs
  • Kyle Dake
  • Jason Nolf
  • Yianni D (maybe he hangs it up after being dethroned by a high schooler)
  • Coleman Scott (after being burned by Ok State, he's still a prime HC candidate)

Who else am I missing?

I don’t know how to define game changer, and I’m not sure his name carries as much weight as Dake or Taylor, but Michael Kemerer will be a very good HC some day.

There are only three names in the game that could demand the sort of head-turns that DT did.

Dake, Burroughs, Snyder

All three seem committed through 2028 - LA for this cycle.

Does someone else come forward?  Askren, providing he can recover?  That might be the only other one.

I have a hard time seeing Askren being a HC if he truly needs a lung transplant.  That is a long long road to recovery.

Have Dake and Burroughs even expressed an interest in coaching at the college level?

If they don't become the next gamechanger level coach, there will be a lot of disappointed posters.

Nobody will hire Askren or Henson. I think they would both be great head coaches.

100% wrong, Spencer is as big of a game changer as the other 3, kids will flock to wherever he is to wrestle for him (and I think moreso than Snyder, actual wrestling results aside

The biggest "problem" with Spencer is he hasn't actually said he wants the job as Iowa HC that Hawkeye fans have ordained him for.  He has said he wants to be AD, though.
