You think that may have to do with the drms abuse of fema and using all of their resources on illegal aliens?

And they gutted the detection systems for these storms.

He really is incapable of reading past the first line. I used to think Jimmy was an outlier and most people had more of an attention span. This...clearly is not the case.

I generally don't have to read to far to realize when someone is blowing smoke up my azz. My first clue was it was from a News source so bad it requires a government subsidy to exist.

Good god...you're not denying that the National Weather Service's ability to detect storms is going to be adversely impacted by the lack of funding for satellites to see and predict weather patterns because...it was from PBS?

How about the SUPER liberal Wall Street Journal. Jesus Christ, even Fox has reported on this.

100 percent correct. When Joe and his thugs were leaving the White House, they spent money like drunken sailors. Hundreds of billions of dollars just magically disappeared. Much of the FEMA money was spent on illegals and other things not FEMA related. Leaving the people who got smashed by Helene nothing. Thank goodness for the many volunteers who helped physically and financially and are still helping. Just for those of you who don't know, Helene dumped 40 trillion gallons of rain in a very short period of time. Much of it in North Carolina. The largest reservoir in America is behind the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead in Nevada. It holds 10 trillion gallons of water. That area (North Carolina, SC, Tenn.,SC, Ga.) got the equivalent of 4 Lake Meades.

It's almost amusing to just deny it's happening. I mean, at least the right wing talking points are defending it. This guy has NO clue it's happening and just blindly dismisses it because it's PBS and it gets Govt funding...

Who should tell him when a tornado warning in his area comes on that he should just ignore it because...that too has Govt' funding and if it has Govt' funding, it HAS to be wrong!

All of this nonsense that's just...spread around Twitter and passed off as though it's true is too exhausting to deal with as they come. MAGA is more full of fecal matter than all the farm land in the United States.

-The people from Helene got almost 3 billion dollars. It was a nice little talking point...only 750 dollars. That was 750 dollars without having to provide proof that your home was destroyed.

To get more...so as to prevent FRAUD AND ABUSE, you obviously had to fill out some paper work.

One of the more comical lies is...well, in the Bold.

By October it was around 850M, ~500M directly to the survivors(the rest spent on infrastructure).

By November and with more storms, it was nearly 3 BILLION dollars with nearly half of that going DIRECTLY to those who applied for aid for personal property and essentials.

In playing a political game, there were MANY who believed Trump and the "they only get 750 dollars" line....which was objectively and verifiably false(as is the claim they got nothing or were treated different than any other storm).

The Republican Governors in those states had to openly correct Trump.

As for the "hundreds of billions," no. Just....LOL...no.

No, there is no credible evidence that "hundreds of billions of dollars disappeared" during President Biden's departure from the White House, as claimed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Independent analyses and fact-checks have found that such assertions are exaggerated and unsupported by verifiable data.HUD+3Reason.com+3The Times of India+3

DOGE's Claims vs. Verified Findings

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), established under the Trump administration and led by Elon Musk, reported identifying $105 billion in "estimated savings." These figures encompass a range of actions, including asset sales, contract cancellations, and programmatic changes. However, DOGE did not specify how much of this total was due to fraud or improper payments. Moreover, analyses have highlighted significant discrepancies in DOGE's accounting, such as counting contracts multiple times and misrepresenting potential savings based on contract limits rather than actual expenditures. The Washington Times+2Reason.com+2Newstarget.com+2Wikipedia

Inspector General Findings

An audit by the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Inspector General revealed that the agency underreported its award-level outlays by $5.8 billion and obligations by $1.2 billion during fiscal year 2022. While this indicates lapses in financial reporting, it does not equate to funds "disappearing" or being lost to fraud. Fox News

Conclusion

While there have been instances of financial mismanagement and reporting inaccuracies within federal agencies, there is no substantiated evidence supporting the claim that "hundreds of billions of dollars disappeared" during President Biden's transition out of office. Assertions to the contrary have been debunked by independent fact-checkers and lack credible supporting data.

The federal (Fema) assistance was 2.1 to 2.7 billion dollars for Helene and Milton. It was for 2 Hurricanes. That seems like a lot, and it is. Unfortunately, it was very slow in coming like most government programs. Unfortunately, Milton had 34 billion dollars of damage and Helene had over 79 billion dollars of damage. That comes to 113 billion dollars. 2.7 billion dollars, that is only about 2.5 percent. I live in North Carolina and saw firsthand how slow and incompetent the FEMA and federal government response was to these horrific disasters. The only saving grace was the many thousands of volunteers who came from all over to help. They came with equipment, food, water, clothing and hundreds of other essential items. They rebuilt roads, bridges and set up thousands of temporary homes.

Its maddening and really sad when volunteers are more efficient and beneficial than the government.

The next set of hurricane survivors are about to get a LOT less.

Smells like FAFO!

So it went from nothing to billions of dollars.

Biden deployed 100% of congressional approved funds for lost property.

As or the total bill of damage cost, you realize that's why you have INSURANCE, right? Did you think Fema was going to hand out 113 Billion dollars?

It would have been significantly more, but Republicans had just blocked a bill to add 20 Billion dollars in aid.

NOW Doge and the Trump administration has slashed another 3.6B dollars and 1800 FEMA employees.

Biden did everything he could. He was asked for more troops to help, he sent them.

But tell me, do you think the next time there is a hurricane the response will be BETTER or WORSE with these cuts to Fema?

This is the old backwards saying, "you can't have your cake and eat it too." Which...makes no sense, why would anyone want cake and not be able to eat it....and so the saying is you can't eat your cake and have it too, but, the question remains. Do you think if that storm hit right now, the response would be BETTER or worse?

Now you have to account for the number of people who believed they were only allowed 750 dollars because Trump repeated that over 3 dozen times. People weren't even filling out their paper work to get benefits because of the News.

But yeah, I can't listen to a Republican complain about Fema's response given they voted against additional funding before and have since gutted Fema.

Well...yeah, you gutted early detection because you had guys who didn't know what the job was, then you gutted funding.

It's like if a bunch of people wanted to put a stop sign on a dangerous intersection and the city counsel voted against it(though in this case it'd be more like going from lights to just a stop sign).

And then there was an accident there and the mayor was from the other party...the party trying to improve the safety at the intersection.

Then you had a car accident with a couple of the counsel members kids and they die.

It's still tragic. It's horrible.

But then they come back AFTER that and decide...raise the speed limit. Well...now, I really don't want to hear when it happens to Republican areas(or in this case, if it happens to anyone's kids...anyone who has a say in the matter at least).

And the volunteers were helpful. They provided some water and a tiny fraction of the resources that were allocated. Like...literally fractions of a percentage. In some cases they were actually getting in the way more.

It's the age old Conservative Mantra...'Make Govt' less efficient, then blame Govt' when it's less efficient.' But people really think Bikers in U-hauls were more effective. I mean...it's always great to help out, but...it's that type of mindset that's just the problem.

We are talking about Helene and the government's lack or slow or response to it. Stay focused. 2 billion dollars for 2 Hurricanes is nothing when there is 113 billion in damage. Especially when a government agency is in charge of distributing it. You had 20 million families directly impacted across 7 states. I doubt if 70 percent of that money made it to those impacted by the hurricanes. What good is a fire department if it takes 4 to 8 weeks to get to you house when its on fire. You keep talking about filling out paperwork. That is hilarious. You have no home, no food, no clothing, no belongings of any kind. Hopefully you still have you family. You have no job now, nowhere to stay. The roads are gone. The bridges are gone. Just please fill out your paperwork. Please explain that Biden approved 100 percent of congressional funds for lost property. Thanks.

We still got Mike’s Weather Page…..so I’m good!

It’s also obvious pretty much everyone one this thread is talking all this FEMA stuff without having any at all direct interaction with what they do, and don’t do. Everyone is getting their expertise from what they read on Twitter, etc.

2 billion isn't the issue. 113 billion is the issue.

As storms become more intense and more frequent more people are building more expensive, under-insured homes in disaster zones. The free federal insurance from FEMA promotes moral hazard. I am uninterested in providing hundreds of millions of free insurance. Homeowners building, and rebuilding, in known disaster prone areas should pay for their own insurance. If they paid true market prices for insurance they would stop building where they should not build.
