Breaking your own 9-year record at the ripe old swimming age of 28 is pretty remarkable.

She left Stanford a couple years ago to train with Anthony Nesty at Florida and has been steadily getting back to her best.

She now has 23 of the 25 fastest times in the 800, and all of the top 10.

It was such a fun meet to follow. You knew something special was going to happen after she swam the second fastest time ever in the 1500 on day 1. Then followed that up with her 2nd fastest 400 free the next day before capping it off with a world record! (She also swam a pretty solid but not spectacular 200 free on the penultimate day but that event simply lacks too many meters for Ledecky)

She really needs to step up her game.

Imagine how good she’d be in wrestling?

You got me to thinking about swimmers in wrestling. Strength/endurance of swimmers should be exceptional.

Can you imagine this guy at 197 pounds? He's skinner than Hamiti!

Ledecky is honestly ridiculous and that performance just landed her at #10 for greatest athletes of all time, my list

Google says Phelps is 6'4" tall and 198 pounds.

Wick was 6'3" and 165 pounds in college, hehe, a real beanpole.

The Brandses are way ahead of you.  The real work is bringing the swimmers to wrestling.

It raises the question, what is the perfect body type for wrestling?

I heard a TED talk a while back that argued part of the progression of records in sports is attributable to specialization by body type. For example, in the early Olympics the shot putters and the sprinters looked very much alike, now there could not be a more stark contrast in sports.

Michael Phelps with his long torso, short legs, big feet, long arms, extreme shoulder, knee, and ankle flexibility is the perfect body type for swimming.

Sadulaev also has a long torso and short legs. Is this the perfect wrestling body type? Would Phelps also have been a world class wrestler?

I don't think there is a perfect shape for wrestlers. The only requirement is they have strength, flexibility, and endurance. We've seen the short legged, barrel chested guys like Chance Marstellar and Luke Pletcher, and the tall, long-legged beanpoles like Mark Branch and Evan Wick. If a guy has a particular body shape he can adjust his style to his strengths!

It seems like those are examples of guys who faught their body type to get close to the top, but not THE top.

Can we all just agree that Brands could coach Phelps up to win a bunch of 1-0 matches and Phelps could never coach Brands to a swim win.
