It's an Askren thing. They had Parker Keckeisen in seniors at 86kg. Connor Mirasola in U20s at 92kg.

Ahhh that makes more sense then.

The seasons come and go ... but Kyle Snyder remains

He seems very mortal when watching him compete internationally, yet he's so many levels above anybody else in the USA at 97kg. Seems wild that there's such a large gap.

Brooks is already pretty bulky.  Not sure where he is going to pack on 11KG of muscle to be at 97KG.  I would think 92KG would be perfect for him ... until the Olympic team trials ... but maybe he wants to start the process sooner rather than later

... Demetrius Thomas may have done Jordan Wood a favor in beating him.

HOLD THAT THOUGHT!

1-0 Thomas...

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What is Mason Parris doing these days?  And will either he or Gable S. show up at WTT?

Good question, idk why either of them wouldn't

It's a good reason to limit the number of turns one is able to get with a lace or gut wrench

I have mixed feelings. You could make the same argument about a pin in collegiate. I think of the biggest one being Jenkins pin over Taylor in the NCAA finals. I wanted to see the match play out, but in our sport there are ways to end a match early. Is getting caught in a lace or trapped arm gut that much different than a cradle? I feel like I want more wrestling in both scenarios. That being said, the death sentence that is often signed by getting laced or trap armed is underwhelming.

Edit: Typo

I feel like Dake has regressed since going to the NLWC. Needs a change of scenery.

Dake and I are the same age. I've been saying it for the last handful of years that I can't believe guys like him, Taylor, and Burroughs could still maintain the grind that it takes to be near the top of the world after your body has physically peaked. How many 34 year old wrestlers are winning world titles from any country? Dake also just isn't an 86kg wrestler.. at least right now.

No, nonono you don’t want this.  They had this rule already in the early 2000’s, I did all my freestyle/greco during this time, and you had to hold exposure for an extra point in between each turn, it slowed the pace of wrestling down a sh1tton.  This limitation is precisely what made freestyle and greco boring to the point it almost got yanked from the olympics.

So, on the last sequence at 74kg, Mesenbrink scored his 16th point, and Carr wrestled through for a reversal.

I’ve seen some international refs/judges/chairs go 2 and 1 there. 9 point lead if they do that.

What is the correct call?

Article 43 – Technical Superiority Except from the fall and the disqualification, the bout must be stopped before the end of regular time when: - There are 8 points difference in Greco Roman style and 10 points difference in Freestyle between the wrestlers The bout may not be interrupted to declare the winner by technical superiority until the action is completed (see article 27).

Article 27 – End of the Bout The bout ends either when a fall, a disqualification by injury of one of the opponents are declared, or at the end of the regular time. A match ends by technical superiority (8 points difference in Greco Roman wrestling and 10 points difference in Freestyle and Women’s wrestling). When a wrestler scores 8 points more than his opponent in Greco-Roman Wrestling and 10 points more in Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling, he wins the match by superiority. In any case, the referee must wait for the end of the action: attack, counter-attack or takedown where the wrestler is in a position that may lead to a fall. If the referee has not heard the gong, the mat chairman must intervene and stop the bout by throwing a soft object on the mat, in order to attract the referee’s attention. Any action begun at the time when the gongsounds is not validated and no action performed between the sounds of the gong and the referee’s whistle is valid. When the bout has ended, the referee stands in the center of the mat facing the mat chairman’s table. The wrestlers shake hands, stand on either side of the referee and await the decision. They are forbidden to lower the shoulder straps of their singlet before leaving the competition hall. Immediately after the decision is announced, the wrestlers shake hands with the referee. Each wrestler must then shake hands with his opponent’s coach. If the above provisions are not observed, the wrestler at fault will be penalized in accordance with the Disciplinary Regulations.

It would seem that Carr was not in a position that would lead to a fall, so they stopped the match when MM attained a 10 point lead.   At least that is the way I interpret it.

You didn't make a mistake. Flo had it listed at 6:00PM Eastern. I even made an early trip to pick up pizzas!

Dake was surprisingly low energy for a guy not cutting any weight at all.

Valencia’s gas tank is still absolutely terrible.

The end of that match was super blah.

He is elderly in middle weight years. The only wrestling demographic that performs well from their mid 30s to early 40s are greco roman super heavyweights.
