So back on topic, why exactly did he leave?

I saw some clips of him on the Basch podcast, and he makes it obvious that there were a bunch of issues but doesn't say what they were.....if we want to grow the sport more transparency would go way further some idiot doing a tik tok dance.

OSU just brought Lee Roper on board from UNI.

That was fast.

Officially as an RTC coach, so Gilman's spot is still open too

casual and/or new fans don't really care about why one of three assistant coaches leave a program during the off season .

I really appreciated the honesty. " have to provide for my family". Kind of lost in equation. But end of day his #1 responsibility. Then everything else second..

Little goofy , but this version of Gilman much more grounded that when at Iowa. I use to root against him. But looks like looking do good and not kid but a man. Wish him luck.

Spratley went from losing 2x to Tanner Jordan, including once in the bloodround, to majoring him 10-0 this season. I would say that is a level jump.

And in regards to Vincent Robinson loss, Vincent was multiple time Super 32 AA, Fargo AA, Ironman AA, Powerade Champ, etc. and was the #50 overall recruit in the class of 2023. Let's not act like he was a scrub. Get real.

How many schools brought Robinson in for a visit?  Lets not retroactively turn him into Cary Kolat! Literally every school missed on him except NC State.

Reading between the lines, Kennedy is just like Gilman. Tough to work with. Taylor sided with his brother in law and didn’t wanna work stuff out with Gilman so he didn’t try to get Kennedy and Gilman to have a sit down.  If it was Caldwell he would just fire him.

I don't think Kennedy was overly popular at PSU either.  Kinda puts DT in a bad position.  Uncle John was put in similar positions with people named Perry and Fix.

I thought I saw his salary at OSU posted a while back. Someone did a public records search.

I'm guessing he made more as an OSU assistant than he will as an NLWC athlete/coach.

'The provide for my family' was after the Spencer loss and confidence loss lead to haste to take the OSU job

Yeah. I get it. Dude went for the next best thing. When you're offered more money than you've ever made, and you have some certainty directly after a very personal, public failure (to make an Olympic team), it makes sense.

But, after a year of doing the actual job, in Stillwater, maybe it didn't make sense for him/his family any more.

He probably made more at OSU than as an athlete at NLWC, but he may also make more as a coach at NLWC than an athlete at NLWC.  I don’t think his full salary from OSU is public though, I just looked and unless I did something wrong it was coming up as only like $20K (and DT “only” like $200K)

Who said anything about comparing him to one of the greatest HS wrestlers of all time. Lmao. But seriously, anyone with eyeballs and could read a bracket knew he was freaking good!!

Is there a class that college coaches take where you learn to speak for for few minutes, allude to something indirectly without actually saying anything and then act like you spelled it out perfectly?   It's almost like listening to Tom Brands speak.    I do enjoy it, but find it funny that he goes on a podcast and after no one knows why he really left, the point of the podcast was to explain it not just talk for 30 min

I don’t think that was the point of it.  I’d say the point was to confirm that he did actually leave and where he’s going.  I don’t really get the hate for the lack of details, he shared way more than almost any other coach would have IMO

By hate you must mean when I say "I do enjoy it"

He made it abundantly clear that he did not get along with ‘staff.’  He made comments that this was basically from the start of his tenure of Ok State.  Made a comment that he pushed on the issue, tried to resolve it, but it got to point where had to focus on just being professional at work.  Could not get better than that.  He had meeting with David Taylor on Zoom after NCAAs, so he could read Taylor’s face and, in the end, knew it was over.

Guy gave A TON of detail.  Yes, he did not name the person (people?) and didn’t air out the specifics of the disputes / disagreements.  But he gave more than 99%.

Hoping he tries to go 57, so Spencer can take his soul again.

You didn't listen to the Basch interview did you? Gilman seemed very at peace with the not only the loss to Spencer but his career as a whole. To say Spencer 'took his soul' would be a huge over exaggeration in my opinion.
