You mean it should have read "Fans put *Wyatt* up by 4"?

No, I think the committee vote was 30-26-3, and the fan vote is another 5 for Hedrickson, for 64 total votes.

If you go back through the WIN press releases you see they mention 64 total votes in 2023. In 2024 and this year they talk about 59 votes and then add "in addition" when talking about the fan vote.

The only thing that is confusing is that this year should have had one more total voter than last year with the addition of Brooks. But maybe there is one less retired coach, or journalist.

I congratulate Hendrickson, but I’d also point out that Carter had a higher bonus percentage than Hendrickson—which, of course, suggests that he was more dominant than Hendrickson. Hodge voting is inherently subjective though and many years, like this year, multiple people have a strong case.

to conclude your analysis with bonus point percentage is to give pins and major decisions equal weight. That's a silly thing to do when determining who is the most dominant.

The bonus percentage was quite close.  The pin percent and dominance score was not at all. And sportsmanship - also not close.

Honest question -

Wrestler A majors 90% of his opponents.
Wrestler B pins 75% of theirs.

Are you going to call A more dominant?  I hope not.

It’s all about vibes, as I’ve been saying.

But I’d note that if the Hodge simply became the most falls in a season award, that would at least provide some superficial objectivity (not accounting for number of matches, strength of schedule, strength of weight class, etc).

Anyway, congrats to Hendrickson.

Was the nickname invented for Kyle Snyder or was it applied to tons of other people before and now after Snyder?  Any athlete (or more likely fan) claiming rights to the captain america nickname is absurd.

Tons of people were called captain america before him.  He borrowed the nickname.  Just like everybody not holding a shield in a marvel comic.

If Pete Rose was called Charlie Hustle after a dozen other guys, then it would be dumb for Pete Rose fans to get mad at the name being applied to Ricky Henderson.  Just like it's dumb for people to get mad on Kyle Snyder's behalf over a nickname he has always shared with many others.

Why are we awarding a trophy based on math and strict rules? Wrong guys get awarded all the time a la the NBA MVP. Should be, first and foremost, the eye test. Who was the best. Point blank period. If you want to include math in your decision so be it. I just need my pair of eyes and a screen to watch to decide

Wasn't the dual winner Gable/Spencer year NOT an exact tie?  Could they have split this between Hendrickson and Starocci based on the tight/split vote?  There are great arguments for both. If I had to pick one I'd pick Hendrickson because I think the pins mean way more than the majors, but I think a dual winner would have been appropriate.
