I’ve ragged on Iowa for its overdependence on transfers / one year mercenaries the last few years however is it unfair that other schools are calling them out for what we believe is common behavior by other top tier wrestling programs?

Presumably Penn State has its own Bob Nicolls doling out bags of cash in back alley deals too.

Penn St is back alleys.  Bob is doing it on Main Steet for all to see.

When they're tampering with kids to induce them in the portal, no. When they're getting kids already in the portal, yes. It seems like they're doing both. I also think they, and now Oklahoma State, with their billionaire benefactors have totally skewed the market with the amounts they're throwing around. It's created an untenable situation.

Who got it unfair is Michigan, who got a reputation early on for poaching all because Mark Branch whined to Willie about something untrue, and Willie turned around and reported it as fact. But Buchanan didn't end up at Michigan, nor did some unnamed Virginia Tech kid (supposedly Stewart) that some anonymous VT idiot superfan started rumors about last summer nor did Yara Slavakouski, who Mineo accused Michigan of tampering with then deleted the tweet. Every one of those instances was always BS.

Other coaches don't seem to think it's unfair to call them out for it. What are the current guidelines for reaching out to athletes from other universities in an attempt to poach them unprovoked? Do they have to be in the portal, or no?

Let's be honest.. there are no rules currently being enforced. It is complete free agency after each season. This is true in wrestling as well as all other sports. Look at basketball.. in the history of March Madness, all 4 #1 seeds have never made it to the final four, yet this year that just happened. Talent is condensed, parity is diminished. Nothing is taboo, and everything goes. Calling out another program is either sour grapes or throwing stones from your own glass house. I despise it, but this is the current landscape of NCAA sports.
