I find the disconnect in so many of these comments entertaining.

We think it is good for the guy who got paid at the same time we think it is bad that the schools got them paid.

What if we're happy the kid gets paid and also reveling in the fact it's more out in the open that all the big dudes are doing this and nobody actually has a moral (if that exists in this context) highground?

My feelings are that I'm happy they got paid, I'm happy wrestlers can get paid for what they do in college which is a brutal endeavor.  Parity was not great before NIL, and has been worse after.  I've reframed how I view the sport and ignore the team race stuff now which is no longer interesting.  Overall though I am extremely happy that we found a way to get wrestlers paid.  I wish the figures could be public so that young kids could see what the possibilities really were (for better or worse)

We are firmly into NIL 2.0, or maybe 3.0, era and parity may be being restored. The predicted defections from the crowded PSU room are occurring, and that will seed some others nicely. First we had Beard and Barraclough go elsewhere and AA. Now we have Facundo and Ryder going elsewhere to improve other teams. Circle of life stuff.

I use this sort of argument to claim that the NBA and NFL drafts should not exist if there is also a salary cap.  The salary cap is enough control IMO.   The draft then creates situations where people end up in places they don't want to be.

Why does there need to be an end?  I know what my congressperson makes. What my mayor makes. Even what the president makes.  Why not what a college university athlete makes ?

Anyway, moving on, I've been batting around the idea of transfer fees to ameliorate some of the small school losses.  What are your thoughts?  I had thought either flat fee based on finalist, AA, or NQ.  Or a direct percentage of NIL contract (this would require some level of disclosure, obviously).

Amen. And they are being silly.

In general anyone who idolizes or idealizes athletes and coaches as some paragons of virtue are bound to be let down at some point by someone.

The universities do not yet pay the athletes. NIL $'s do not come from the universities themselves. The coaches absolutely have a say in who gets paid by whoever makes the payments (NIL collectives, individual boosters, maybe even businesses), but the money is not the university's to give. And it is not theirs to make public.

When (if) the House settlement is approved next week, that will change in some places and not in others. Then at least some of the numbers will likely be published by public universities. But that will only affect direct payments from the schools. NIL will still be private.

What they make of their actual Name, image and likeness should be kept private.  What they’re paid to go someplace should be public.  A public university shouldn’t be able to hide what a college athlete is paid to come there or stay there and then leave because they changed their mind.  PUBLIC UNIVERSITY

Every pro sport publishes salaries.  I have no idea what an athlete makes selling his autograph.  This should be no different
