If Starocci wins in the Big 10 finals, where do you think Max gets seeded at NCAAs?

If he loses to Starocci in the final and Keckheisen wins B12, I think #3, but maybe #4 behind Foca.

Among the seeding criteria his only head to head is with Berge (25%) and he wins that. He also takes quality wins over the field. Even though he has fewer than others, his are in higher tiers. Not sure if they split this 20% (15/5) or not.

If Foca wins Ivy then he gets the 15% for conference placement over McEnelly, which could be the difference, if it also influences the coaches' rank (10%).

But if the coaches do not flip them he should keep the lead and be in the #3 slot due to a better RPI (10%).

1 Star

2 Keck

3 McNelley

4 Plott

Why would McNelley be seeded over Plott?  Not that Plott should mind, he'd prob rather be on opposite side of Keck.  Of course we don't know ... Keck could get the 1.   Now sure if Ferrari wrestles and McNelley beats him then makes sense.

Could Max force a stalling point in 2 periods on their feet?

As long as the match isn't wrestled at Penn St ... yes.

Better win %, higher quality wins score, better common opponents. Similar RPI right now, not sure which way that goes after conference tournament, ditto coaches' rank.

Push on head to head, and conference finish (assuming they are both second).

Who has McNelley faced in the top 5?  Win percentage is mostly about hitting Keck twice already, can't see McNelley's record any different if he had Plott's schedule.  But this is a weight where seeds don't matter.  You just don't want to face Keck of Starocci and you don't get that option.  Keck is a beast and Starocci has shown that maybe if you get the right ref there's a stall win option ... yeah probably not.

McEnelley has a tier 1 win (Berge) and two tier 2 wins. Plott's highest win is tier 3.

I'm a Gopher fan and certainly admit that it would be foolish to pick Max straight up odds against a 4X champ in their first meeting.  Starocci has a certain mat savviness that he would need to overcome.  It's possible in a second meeting, but I want to see them wrestle once first before making that call.

Plott and Berge should meet in the Big 12 semis  If Plott beats Berge, I think he deserves the 3 seed at NCAAs. However I'd rather him get the 4 and be on Carter's side. Not because he would have a better chance than he does against Parker, but because it would be a fresh matchup

Two offensive dynamos...both huge and strong for the weight.  How do we see this match play out?

You nailed it. Two offensive guys getting after it. This should play out to be a giant 'W' for wrestling fans.

Starocci clearly has the edge based on credentials/experience. That'd be the smart bet. The undefeated freshman is fun to watch, too. Hard to root against him.

IMO, the smartest bet is to not overthink it. Sit back and enjoy this one like a movie you haven't seen the trailer for.
