Freestyle success doesn’t always translate to collegiate folkstyle success and he got nearly teched by Plott, when one of the wrestlers in that group beat him. He also was almost teched by Buchanan and had a couple other losses but I won’t hold that against him.

@scourge165 said it above. Sinclair is a brilliant wrestler but was able to reach extreme heights of success in high-school without cutting weight. He's looked outmatched physically against everyone he's lost to this year. Him finding a nutrition plan/weight that is ideal for him will be very important for his success in college. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a 174 next year.

Levi competed in an NCAA final as a 17 year old, IIRC.

Bo is already older than that with another year of HS remaining.

that is so crazy to me.... so BB really should be a Fresmen in college now, yet still has another year in HS? I am so confused, I really am!

If Bo was a Sr this year, he'd be in a normal age range. Haines was younger than average. I was 17 when I graduated and I was younger than half the Jr class.

I probably should have been held back, but what I think is kinda silly is that your growth as a Wrestler is impacted THAT significantly by age vs development.

Spending an extra year in HS isn't NEARLY as helpful as spending a year at the Collegiate level, grinding it out.

Lets just stop with this age nonsense. I don't care. Kyle Snyder or Levi Haines...they were younger and their accomplishments INCREDIBLY impressive. But you take that year of training they had as Sr's away and...Haines is probably on the podium, not on the raised stage and Snyder, who knows, he was a freak, but that year led to tremendous growth for both.

These are also just kids who happen to be the best in a sport that we all love watching, but still, the old guy we're talking about here and people keep taking jabs at? That's an 18 year old Jr in HS. The kid is a year younger than average.

Also, like it or not(and most do not) he's doing quite a bit to grow the sport.

I hate the constant conversation about Bo Bassett's age. As far as I know, the reason Bo was held back was because at his growth rate, he wasn't going to be a full sized 106 as a freshman (he grew a good amount between 8th and 9th grade IIRC). If my child wanted to, I would allow them to be held back to enjoy the sport competitively for all 4 years of high school as well. I don't understand why Bo gets picked out from the countless other PA/Ohio guys that did a holdback year, other than the fact he is so dominant.

Yeah, and I probably wouldn't. But I sure as hell wouldn't judge you or your kid for doing so.

Bo had an advantage as a Freshmen maybe, but that's it. When you start Wrestling College National Champs and AAs and winning Super 32, Ironman and age level World Titles, I don't care anymore.

Pretty much whoever you're a team of, they've had a guy who was 23-24 Wrestling in the last few years. If you weren't upset then, don't worry about Bassetts age.

This is very common in the high school world today. He's a special person who'll do well.

Haven't had an NCAA champion in 2 years but they're going to have 2 4-timers starting next year? Right.

Maybe Levi is a 2x champ right now if he did what Bassett is doing.

I think that's a pretty good bet. Or maybe Kasak is going for 4.

Well, no, clearly not as the OP was confused about Bassetts age, but is that really why you think Bassett and Ferrari aren't capable of being 4X Champs? Because Ayala, Woods and Lee didn't win titles the last two years?

If they had would you think they had a chance?

Both of those guys should absolutely be competitive next year and then the following unless Bassett RSs. The last two individual performances at the NCAAs for Iowa has no bearing on that.

On being older when in school. Not always holding a kid back.

Military family here. Five different schools in two years at one time, in four different countries. US Military schools as well as normal, in country attendance in others.

When I was a HS Junior in a US State I had already takan all but one class needed for Graduation but this was a State that did not do 'early graduation'. If we were at the last posted location I would have been done that year. Ended up finishing the Senior year with all electives - do I too Auto Mechanics & shop & typing along with what advanced classes in Chemistry the school offered. 1960's without the AP and pre-placement stuff available later to our kids.

Now I would have been in college early. Not then. A different State - different rules and opportunities.

Athletics? Having entered AAU tournaments & European tournaments - made me ineligible for HS wrestling, baseball and Cross Country in this State my final two years. Pretty unfair then and since I never went back after leaving I don't know what they do now.

Some kids are early, some later for whatever reasons. Nobody seems to care if it is Physics, Chemistry, Music, Art or Theatre but go apeshiz with Athletics.

Why would it be? Redshirt, medical redshirt, olympic redshirt, covid.  There's wrestlers that are far older than he'll be when he's done. Aren't there 24 and 25 year-olds out there?

PSU has three 24 year olds in their starting lineup.

This is what I said. Any team you're a fan of had 23-24 year olds competing the last couple years.

Would it be better if Bo was Mormon and did a mission and then came back? People have done that.
