Zero significant concessions from Canada. Great for Trudeau. This is what happens when you stand up to a bully. Great lesson for my kids.

Full quote:

I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.

In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.   Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.

Before the tariffs were even made official, they were effective at getting behavior changes.

President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to a pause in implementing tariffs for at least a month, just hours after Trump agreed to delay tariffs on Mexico.

By your logic, Trump caved on Canada tariffs too.   But only for 30 days to see if Mexico and Canada put real muscle behind their words.  Playing them like a violin.    What was the purpose of the tariffs again?  Oh yes, getting the southern and northern borders better policed.   10k people from the Canada is an insignificant concession on Canada's part for sure.  10k from Mexico is pretty insignificant I'd say.   Oh yeah, you are really catching him.

First, $1.3b is nothing, on a federal level. Second, he could have negotiated this up front. Instead, he pushed fwd with an aggressive tariff policy, threatened even more if Canada retaliated,  and then backed off when they actually did. For a Very meager border policy. He lost a lot of credibility and the world laughs at his weakness.

It amazes me how simple this is for the new administration when they lay out the shared border concerns. I imagine Canada and Mexico leadership looking around the room… “oh, well why didn’t we work this out in 4 years ago?

$1.3b for Canada is a complete joke. You probably have a friend or two with that much money. When you look at the pathetic commitment they made, he clearly caved.

Btw, Canada actually already agreed to this back in December.

You might want to pace yourself. You are going to have 4 years of President Trump. Then you might get JD Vance for a few years.

Did Canada actually lower any of their "ridiculous tariffs" that the wingers complain about, like 270% on u.s. milk?

Nope and that's a miss likely (weakly) explained away as a negotiation tactic or ignored as if the USA hasn't been complaining for the last 30 years.

that’s a girl that I’ve seen be on the wrong side of arguments lately, but I believe her on this. that is an incomplete framing from the government about a win.  it is also inaccurate to say that Trump got rolled. The Canadian citizens are talking about how screwed they are in this trade war, and it’s only a 30 day pause.  we need to wait and see what it occurs.  The leverage is there…

Your mental gymnastics is something that should be studied...I've really never seen anything like it...WOW.

Rekd Vaking and Tripandslip are evidence that the dimocrats didn’t learn from the election and the improvements are likely to continue past the midterms.

I hope you are wrong...my guess is that RV and Trip are so far on the fringe that the majority of D's do not think as they do...and I use the word "think" VERY loosely in reference to RV and Trip.

Their numbers are dwindling.

Unhinged rhetoric, lying on basic easily looked up things, supporting the mutilation of children for gender re assignment, chemically castrating youth for gender confusion, not prosecuting violent crime, these are some of the things that will keep the Left on the outs.   People are tired of it.

Jasmine Crockett recently said 80% of violent crime is done by white supremecists.   WHAT?   Demonstrably not true.

Calling Trump a dictator as Ilhan Omar has for things that Trump can legally do like reigning in USAID, setting tariffs, protecting the border.   This is the kind of thing a good administrator does, protect the constituents, and control spending of consituents money.

This kind of shrillness (don't get me started with Pocahontas) is not what the Ds need to be doing.   The election was a rejection of that kind of mentality.   But don't learn guys, that would be fine.

How about the fact that Trudea already agreed to this in December, this pathetically small amount of money?

How about him not implementing that Dec Plan until yesterday.  There seems to be a cause and effect here.  In Dec, Trump said he'd tariff Canadaa and Trudeau went to Mara Lago to discuss a plan.   He didn't implement the plan so Trump said tarfiiffs tomorrow.   Right on queue, Trudeau says the plan is now effective.

Trump acts, Trudeau reacts.   But you know that and still wish to provide misinfo and disinfo these boards.

You should do the math. Do you realize how pathetic $1.3B is for a country like the U.S. or Canada, especially in comparison to our overall budget and considering the fact that he's merely re-committing to something he already committed to back in December.

This is a MONSTER cave in and any non-extreme winger can see that. Trudeau stood up to Trump, called his bluff and Trump filled his diaper and then backed down like a coward.

Imagine hating someone so much that you keep repeating that $1.3B isn't a significant amount of money. GTFOH with your BS. You are beyond ridiculous. It could be $3T and you would be saying it is pathetic if it is tied to Trump.

She/He won.  Nuh uh.  Stop with the sucker's choice.

Both Canada and the USA won on parts of this.
