I genuinely don't know enough about recruiting prior the 10ish or so years ago to know the answer to this question, but it seems like the trend has changed. I can't imagine PSU and OKST would have had (prior to the portal) the types of recruiting classes they are currently getting where so many top high school recruits will be battling it out just to be the starter. In the past it seemed more like guys went where they "fit a need" during their span of eligibility.

Do you think the option to transfer is making it more appealing to throw your hat in the ring at these schools that already have someone highly talented in your weight, where before you were more likely to commit elsewhere?

I think it's going to end up being the opposite.  I think kids are gonna start going to the non top wrestling schools to try to all American and then try to transfer to the top wrestling schools for nil money.

The assumption in these arguments is that the recruiting class rankers got it right and the coaches either lived up to the rank or not. There is always the possibility the recruiting class ranks were wrong. Looking at 2013 ranks certainly offers support for that view.

The ranker is on this here forum. Ask him...

This is exactly what Askren said.  He said if you are a top recruit, don't go to Iowa.  Go to another school first, then get paid a huge bag to transfer to Iowa.

Good point.

Hey @Husker_Du, I read The Athletic a lot. They do a lot of re-ranking articles where they revisit old rankings. Today they have an article re-ranking the 2022 college QB class, for example.

Would you re-rank any of the classes listed above? If so, which? And how?

that's something i should definitely do over the summer.

also, to the topic at hand i would say it's overall too early to tell,

but it seems like the NIL era created more of a stockpiling than in the past and the Rev Share will make it worse. plus you add in the portal and it's a no brainer. the haves and have-nots will be exacerbated.
