It's something I'm good at and know, and if I did want to teach at the university level, I'd need it. During my undergrad days I butted heads with some people, some I got along with great. Turned out the ones I butted heads with were the people who have more say in certain things. Also I publicly supported a now former professor in our department who was tried twice on federal charges (hung jury, acquitted). So getting a PhD there would be a bad idea. Much like I can’t address anyone from the Military as anything but Sgt, Col, etc….for me personally anyone who has achieved a PhD has earned the privilege of being addressed as Dr. If PhD only related to the medical field, it would have its own separate distinction. mspart Posted October 25 Share Posted October 25 I thought about getting a doctorate in engineering, but decided I didn't want to do research the rest of my life. So I didn't. I did a Master's and did that research and gathered data and it was fun. Then I met my wife. Good decision I say. Married 36 years now. Getting a PHD is a huge effort, WR is correct there. The guy I did my Masters with (he was on another project) later got his Phd and taught in Mississippi at U of M or M ST. I don't like a professor who pawns off teaching on a clueless TA who barely speaks English. I actually felt bad for the guy because he wasn't at all prepared to teach anything. I had questions about something and he told me me, with the limited English he did know, that the actual professor would have to give an answer since he couldn't really understand what I was asking.
