Swimming, Glorious Swimming

Recommended Posts

Begins tomorrow.

And we do not bury the lead in swimming.

There are two finals tomorrow. Men's 400m freestyle (no, not that freestyle) and women's 400m freestyle. The women's 400m free will almost certainly have the world record holder plus two former world record holders. This will be a barn burner.

Katie Ledecky, the greatest female swimmer of all-time, and former world record holder is NOT the favorite. That title goes the Ariarne Titmus of Australia, the current world record holder. Titmus broke Ledecky's record in 2022. But Ledecky might not even be second favorite. In 2023 Canada's Summer (seems a good name for a swimmer) McIntosh broke Titmus' record only to have Titmus reclaim the record at last year's World Championship (where Ledecky finished second and McIntosh fourth).

With the three fastest women ever in the same field it will not disappoint.

I love watching the swimming events at the Olympics.

Back in the day I had a guy who reported to me whose son won an Olympic gold medal in one of the swimming relays at the Sydney Olympics...was cool to see the medal up close.

Why ask a question you already know my answer to?

Because I'm traveling with no access to Olympics and TV this weekend, am board and never tire of hearing your analysis of the various forms of swimming.  🤷‍♀️

It is setting up nicely. Ledecky, Titmus, and McIntosh are through to the final. Ledecky was fastest, followed by Titmus with McIntosh fourth fastest. But all of their prelim times were pedestrian. Expect a much faster final.

I have Dish for watching tv. I tuned in this morning and was surprised to see 13 different channels covering the different sports. There are 6 channels that are in the 9755 to 9991. Then there were about 7 more channels scattered out. Got  see the mens and womens 400 and the relays.

What time CT is final?   Might watch on phone data if Elon allows us to dip down low orbit.

The swimming finals come on at 2:30 ET. Is that what you are asking? So would that be 1:30 CT?

Thanks.  Too bad I don't have more time only 2.5/3 hr from Wkn's house, could've stopped by.  I'm sure he'll be hunkered down in the man cave wearing his speedo with a good bourbon in hand.  🙂

Not a lot of action this morning with only three events, but there was a big upset. #1 seed Sam Short of Australia seems not fully recovered from recent illness as he fails to make the 800 final. Meanwhile, our hero, Bobby Finke will look to copy his world championship swim and win it from an outside lane. As a recovering distance swimmer, I love to watch this guy bring it home like a runaway locomotive. But beware as only 3 seconds separated first from eighth in an 8 minute race.

On the women's side McIntosh eased her way into the 400 IM final where she will be the prohibitive favorite. The 100 back will be another barn burner as 4 of the 5 fastest swimmers ever are through to tonite's semi.
