I agree, but to whom?

Not sure, out of all the #1’s I think he’s most vulnerable… maybe McKee in the quarters after he makes adjustments?

Not that I think it will happen, but I would love Davis to win this thing just so he can flash a smile at all you guys from the top of the podium.

Davis' walk out music for the final has been leaked.

Rich - me too. I’m not sure why some  of the posters out of the gate are picking him to lose today but we shall see.

We need a thread on how high Davis' NIL will go for if he wins this thing. What products would want him?

Whatever happens in the 125 bracket will not surprise me. 125 has been crazy all year, why would it stop now. it could go close to the seeding or it could go totally bi-polar.

Through Round 2, Davis has the highest percentage chance of losing on Day 1.

No others have a real chance aside for injury or deckfall.

Rumor has it that Brands has already reached out to bring him to Iowa on a twelve figure deal.

What are some of the NIL's that previous NCAA Champions have received. 75K or more?

The easy answer is Davis because of the parity there, he’s a true freshmen, and because 125 is the first weight. Another guy could go down in the same round, probably tonight if it happens. Doubt any will lose in the first round. But ya never know!

I thought you promised to stop fricking around today? I’m aware, thank you very much. I was hoping for slightly more data points.

@nhs67 promised. I always frick all the time.

As for your question, I know there are three #1's who have gone 0-2. Most recently, the aforementioned "He Who Shall Not Be Named" in 2007 and Cornell's Mack Lewnes in 2009. But the pioneer was Pitt's Mike Johnson in 1964 when they only seeded to six.

In order or likelihood I will go:

10% Davis - 125 is crazy and he already has an OT match with Peterson

2% Mekhi - had a 2-1 victory over Turley last year at NCAA's and in that close of a match anything can happen

1% Fix - Bouzakis is a wild man and a pinner

<1% Keckeisen - Feldkamp is also a wild man and a pinner

<1% Haines - Mauller is the most accomplished 16/17 seed in the tournament

There were also 4 #1's who went 1-2, so if older tournaments also had two Thursday rounds, those guys also lost on Day 1.

So, in the “PSU” era, it has never happened. That seems significant.

Close. Darion Caldwell in 2011 was one of the 1-2 guys. He went W-L-L with the two L's due to injury.
