The First Annual Dark Horse Derby Challenge

Recommended Posts

I know. How can it be annual if it is the first? But here we are.

Rules:

  • Pick one wrestler at each weight with a seed between 17 and 33.
  • Tournament scoring. 1 point for a champ bracket win, 1/2 point for a consol win, etc.
  • The person whose "team" scores the most is the winner.

Tiebreakers:

  1. Score of lowest seeded wrestler in the two teams combined. (if Team A picks all 17 seeds and Team B picks all 18 seeds, Team B wins automatically).
  2. The wrestler with the highest percentage of their college team's points. (if Team A has a wrestler from Little Rock who scores LR's only points of the tournament, and Team B has a wrestler from Campbell who scores half of Campbell's points for the tournament, Team A wins).

Submit your entries here and I will track. Feel free to change as many times as you like up until Wednesday night. As @ionel knows, I may or may not notice.

Awards for the top three, no, four teams. Screw you NCAA, you penny-pinching bastards. Oh, and please ignore that prior sentence, and thanks for continuing to sponsor wrestling.

@Wrestleknownothing maybe create a pickem with an Intermat password and we could use this as the discussion grounds?

Isn't Starocci the 9 seed, not 19?

As said previously I'd have preferred (so maybe for next year) a simple pick 5 in ranked order, could have multiple for a single weight, weight the points by seed for example if pick the 33 seed then points are 33/17 * 1.0 or 0.5 front of backside bracket or 17 seed 17/17 * 1.0 or 0.5.  Also thus no tie break criteria needed.   We don't have a personal "dark horse" at every weight but might have more than one at some weights and we have some more likely than others.

But since you didn't, I'm going to play the long odds:

new-year-casino-roulette-wheel-red-secto

That's right just put me down for 17 (red or black, orange or blue) on all ten rolls of the wheel.  If any brackets re-seeded I'm still going with 17.

And also if they re-seed the bracket don't be telling me you missed my update its:  17!
