I noticed that when I lived in Cincinnati - I'm not linguist, but i think it has to do with German language influence

Old habits die hard, chain wrestling used to value that more, now it is effectively just an escape unless you get a rideout

I was gonna say the same thing.   That's how we were trained when takedowns were only two.  Now the math makes it silly to go for a reversal in many cases
