Per Flo...

165 is absolutely jacked...

1 - Angelo Ferrari (#1 @ 170)
2 - Joe Sealey (#1 @ 160)
3 - LaDarion Lockett (#3 @ 160)
4 - William Henckel (#2 @ 160)
5 - Ethan Birden (#5 @ 160)
6 - Clay Giddens (#14 @ 152)

Also Bo Bassett up at 138 again... lighter field than before.  I imagine it's so Gibson can get in at 132 (possibly one entry per school?)?

175 has eleven (11) ranked gents.  Makes sense Flo still ranks using 170 and 182.  Would be (could be?) 12 if Focus ends up going up.

Heavyweight would have 13 if they did the weight classes the same as College (save for 106/113/120(119?).

Using 170/182 is dumb. Pretty much the whole country other than a state or two are using the new weights.

I know.  Is that not par for the course - especially on their High School bit?  They'll change next year maybe?

42 states including National Preps use the 14 weight set across the county. I would say use those, but I'm just a dead senator.

4 states are using the 13 weight set(Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania)
1 state(Alaska) is using the 1996ish weight set(103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 285)
Idaho has 15 weights, the old set plus 98lbs
New York uses the NFHS 12 weight set plus 101lbs
Montana has a modified set of weights(103, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 205, 285)

Michigan was using the 1996 weights until last year too, right?

Honestly, I think it prudent to adjust the NCAA weights to mirror the MFS and MGR weights as well as possible adjust high school to match.  Add in the three bottom Cadet weights and we have an odd number that will make things quite simple in tie-breakers.

Criteria:
1 - Matches Won (Best) - Could be total matches, matches won via pin then tech then major, etc.  KISS it, I say - matches won (this would include forfeits).  It would only go past this if there is a double forfeit.
2 - Who has the least amount team penalties (worst) - this could include unsportsmanlike during the matches, too... keep gents on their best toes or a simple as ensuring nobody is DQ'd in a match due to unsportsmanlike.  This would only go past this if (when) both teams have no penalties.
3 - Who won the final match (last) - If delving in to #1 insofar as via pin then tech then major, etc - this could also be done the same way.  Meaning whoever won the last pin then tech then major then decision.

Weights:
45 KG or 99lbs
48 KG or 105lbs
51 KG or 112lbs
55 KG or 121lbs
60 KG or 132lbs
65 KG or 143lbs
70 KG or 154lbs
75 KG or 165lbs
80 KG or 176lbs
85 KG or 187lbs
90 KG or 198lbs
100 KG or 220lbs
130 KG or 286lbs

Also drop the bottom three weights and you have your new NCAA weights.

if this is going to become a weight class discussion, it may deserve a less misleading thread title.  however, as much as I would prefer 13 consistent NFHS weight classes across all states, those listed here with their corresponding kilogramatic values are not reflective of the bell curve of high school wrestlers.  even adding those bottom 3 weights, there are too many upper weights, too many lower weights and not enough in the middle (with too large increments). 75% of the kids would fall into less than 50% of the weights. that is the difficulty in trying to have HS classes, where kids are starting lighter and growing faster, mirror college or "grown up" weights.

I believe they used the new 14 set last year and maybe the year before. But yes they used the old old weights for a while. Michigan still doesn't have indoor plumbing in half the state too.

And there are a dozen other wrestlers that are going challenge and beat some of them.

Maybe, and that is a respectful maybe, a dozen or more other guys have the potential to beat Giddens, but the other five are heavy favorites to wrestle to seed.  Injuries and off-days (and on-days) happen, but those top three especially?  They're not going to lose to anyone not seeded in the Top 6.

I remember watching the number one ranked 171 pounder in the country from ST Eds wrestling in the finals against an unknown freshman from Monroeville and getting thoroughly beaten. My nephew who went to Walsh (4 time state finalist and 3 time State champ ) thought the kid was senior from Pennsylvania. I told he was a freshman. He was shocked. But he was a freshman and a teammate of Logan Steiber. I  also said they would challenge them ,which means tough matches.

The 6th ,7th and 9th seeds already had extremely close matches already. Now we are in the quarter finals. Which should be pretty exciting.

Are the six the same guys as the top five?

Every Top 5 seed at 165 has bonused both their prior matches so far.  Two out of ten are Majors, the rest are Pin or Tech.

Correction. We are only at round of 16. Things will start to get exciting. Like I said challenge. That means tough matches.
