Flo did a lineup breakdown with Zeke and there are some interesting lineup notes -

Sounds like Valencia/Negron was a wrestle off for 184. Valencia will go 174, Negron 184

No mention of Montalvo, sounds like It’s Meissner’s job at 197.

Oh!?

I know Negron is also trying to make Puerto Rico's Olympic team.  Interesting that he isn't trying to go 74 KG (163lbs) when he looked TINY for 165 last year.  Tall, yeah... but no meat.

That said he was 79 KG for U23s before last year... also tiny btw.

Maybe we see some sort of Shakur improvement up the weight.

Jacob Meissner was a very underrated wrestler in Minnesota. Won 2 titles as a 200 lb 220. His positioning was always so sound. He wrestled for a non traditional power team so his upside should be good

Thanks -- I tried to ask if Valencia was going up or down....but I was told very adamantly that the ASU wrestle offs 100% mean nothing and have no bearing on the starting lineup. By the way.... it's very unlikely. you see Montalvo.

What happened to Montalvo?

why's this? He's on intermat's preseason rankings at #30 would be a bummer if he's no go.

He never really bounced back from that ACL injury. Total bummer, believe he was the #9 seed in ‘20

Both Negron and Valencia are registered at 184 this weekend.

Curious is Valencia weighs in at 178 or something.

Trackwrestling has the pre-season cert weights at 197 for Negron and 285 for Valencia.-  of course we know that could have meant 184.1 and 197.1 .   I had assumed, like others, that Negron was going 174 and Valencia 184, but the recent article said Valencia 174 and Negron 184. With all of that being said, If I understand the descent plan correctly, if he is going to be in the lineup next weekend at 174 against Missouri,  I think he has to weigh in at around 176.5 or something close. Same would be true of Negron.  Some of the tournaments used to show the actual weigh in weights, not sure if this one does.

Universities now feed all the athletes at no cost to the athlete.  Wrestlers (less 285s) can't eat during the season, makes since they should get 2x free food off season.  🤷‍♀️

No Figs. No Chlebove. No Yas. No Ramos. No Larkin. At the journeyman it appears.

Pyles alluded to Figs not showing up. I assume he’s out for the duals tomorrow afternoon as well. Not too surprised with no Chlebove. Fresh off U23s and Dibert is a formidable backup

it's a fitting tribute to college wrestling by starting off the season with us NOT getting Figs v Noto.
