Admittedly the S.E.C. requires member schools to have a quantity of teams that happens to be lower than quantities required by the Big 10, etc.   Perhaps they'll add women's wrestling in the S.E.C. though, so they can continue to be a football powerhouse conference even as Title IX: Proportionality remains a (declining?) factor.   Having successful wrestling programs such as Mizzou and the Sooners could help the process along in the S.E.C.   We can be the change that we want to see...

Mizzu finally got back in the B12 and they've got a pretty good program.  Does anyone really think they want to join OU in an SEC conference that'll never happen.  Do we think Kish was lured to OU with promises of being the top dog in the new SEC conference of 2 men's and 10 women's teams?  ;_;

That brings up an interesting question.  Not sure if this has already been addressed, but will OU be allowed to stay in the Big 12 for wrestling?  Mizzou wanted to stay, but the conference was all butthurt that they left and refused to let them.  It took them 10 years to come to their senses and let them return.

I dont think anyone yet knows if that's been sorted out or yet approved.  Pretty sure OU has to go thru a process to request being in the B12 for wrestling.  I'd expect that will be a little easier more formal now that Mizzu was accepted.  I'm not sure "butt hurt" is the right term, it was a kindve a first time for that situation so even though wrestling coaches wanted them to stay bit of a different story for the high level money folks.

Think they would have done that after the first couple turned it down.  They have to give Kish at least 3 to 5 years now but this could be the last hope for the program given the whole SEC thing.

What do you think the Sooner wrestling program will have to accomplish in order to continue being a funded NCAA D1 program at the U. of Oklahoma, 5 or 10 years from now?

Top 3 in B12 and top 15 D1, maybe finish top 10 once in next 5 to 7 years.

Yeah, I dont know, but thats my guess of what they'd want at least.  They might keep the program with less than that but if they do well in the SEC in football, basketball, baseball, softball etc then why would you keep a bottom feeder program thats not even in the conference.  Even though gymnastics is successful, are the any SEC programs and at some point why?  Wouldn't one think that the AD relayed expectations to Kish and vice versa?

The Sooners won 7 NCAA D1 men's wrestling championships, as recently as the 1970s:

Maybe no A.D. and alumni association would want to shed a program with such a noticeable tradition of excellence, albeit from yesteryear?   Besides, maybe the Bedlam competitions with Oklahoma State require that a certain minimum quantity of teams participate...   Didn't the Sooners nearly defeat Oklahoma State this past season in wrestling at the first Bedlam?   I just checked and it was close:
