Sleeping in a running car is not smart given carbon monoxide unless of course its a Tesla but owning a Tesla is dumb so ...

From what I can gather, it sounds like he had the car's ignition on so he could run the air conditioning while he slept:

The incident occurred Sept. 7. According to a police affidavit, an officer approached a vehicle that had been running with its lights on for "at least" two hours in a parking lot/garage at 180 E. Burlington St. in Iowa City. The officer found Williams unconscious with an open container of alcohol in his lap.

He didn't even leave the parking lot/garage, and I can't find any reporting that he moved the car while inebriated

How are you even allowed a driver's license after say three?

Most people with over 3-4 DWIs don't bother ever getting their license back because it would come with lots of expenses like ignition interlock, high risk insurance, "whiskey" plates, and what's known as a B-Card in MN.  They just buy cheap used cars for cash or borrow from family members and continue to drive with no license.

This is the man who dies on a hill that It's safe for young kids to race motorcycles, while also acting confused as to why young kids die racing motorcycles.

Mysteries the world may never solve.

If OJ can find the real killer, there is still hope for you good sir.

He's not dying on a hill proclaiming it's a safe sport. certain people have a passion for thrill sports. My idol cousin ten years older raced. I used to soap and wax his leathers, went to Unadilla for years.  the mechanical knowledge of keeping these things in top running shape is a life's lesson on its own. It is also one of the most physically strenuous sports. I also had an idol athlete in my older brother's class. He excelled in lacrosse and skiing.  He died on a ski slope going 80-90 MPH, my cousin is still alive.

yep...

still ridiculously amusing that anyone is ignorant enough to think that would ever be an issue outside of a very tight enclosed space...

but, this place has never not been a huge source of amusement for me...

I knew someone who died got stuck in the ditch, open road, nothing around for miles, cold so left car running.  Knew another did it in the garage intentional.   If there is no wind where will the CO go?  Why do we have CO detectors for small airplanes if flying thru open air at 200mph ... won't it just blow away?

like Mean Gene said, big metropolitan areas would have drastic drops in population if it were an issue...

but don't let any common sense get in the way of a GRAND PROCLAMATION POST!!!

You should stick to simple stuff like greco and leave the science stuff to the nerds.
