Sad to see all their transfers after such a great showing at NCAAs. I think Ayres is a great coach and I’m surprised to see so many leaving. I would bet that Hayden Hidlay is an awesome coach, so maybe his departure is the reason so many are leaving, or is it something else?

As the coach said, nobody has left yet. Hopefully they test the waters and come back.

My opinion is that it’s not about anything other than they got their degree and are seeing if they can benefit financially from the last couple years of their wrestling career while not having to endure the academic rigors of Stanford graduate school.

That makes sense. I know a few were grad transfers, but I thought there was one or two that didn’t graduate yet

It's understandable but a bummer. As a neutral fan, it was going to be fun to see a program like Stanford field such a strong team next year, hopefully they still do.

I read elsewhere that the wrestling program has limited ability to get guys into grad school at Stanford. So the grad. transfers may not have a choice.

Younger guys are a headscratcher - giving up a degree that will benefit you for a 30-40 year professional career for a quick five-figure cash infusion does not demonstrate good long-term planning.

All of them are graduate transfers. Knox and Norman graduated in 3 years which is very impressive.

Any accepted to Stanford are coming in with a good number of college credits making 3 years faily common/quite doable.

Do you not realize AI is a thing? The job market is horrendous us right now, and I don’t see how it will ever get better with this huge AI push that is currently going on.

My original name I used when I signed up was “jack’s ejaculate” but it got auto-switched to this. I don’t know why 🤔

Back in January I asked ChatGPT who the top 197 wrestler in the country was and it said Luke Lillendahl.

I think the Stanford kids are gonna be OK.

Stanford needs to find high level wrestlers that are smart enough to get into Stanford but not smart enough to graduate in 3 years.

These smart and motivated kids are hurting the wrestling program!🤣

Yet oracle just supposedly laid of 20-30k employees for an AI push. Honest question: do you actually think that was just an outlier or this is just constrained to tech companies?

also, I actually don’t believe your AI story.

They all graduated, they are checking value on the market, Im sure Stanford will get the chance to match the $ on a couple of them.  It makes perfect sense.  Gotta know what the market value is, hard for Stanford to figure what the kid should get paid without a “market comparison”.  Lets say Stanford offers them 100k, but they go out there and get offered 200k…. The kid would have left too much $ on the table.  It is what it is nowadays.

Rumors on the street the starters or most of them are going to Iowa St.

That's all anyone has talked about on every forum, since the portal opened...

I don't spend a ton of time on these forums, so I don't know what is rumored. I got this from my kid, who has ties at ISU. I think that is why you are seeing the younger kids portal out of ISU too. Castillo was a shock to us, Meza not so much. I am not sure why Perryman waited this long to portal, Castillo was beating him when he was still in highschool

It's all over the place. Folks accusing ISU of making portal moves back at the NCAA tournament.

ISU must have a bunch of money and a hell of a grad program...

As an alum. I'm not sure where the money came from, seems to be pretty sudden.  Idk about the grad program took my 5 years and I didn't get a grad degree lol

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

I am not shocked, but I also know this happens with a lot of teams. I was told coach was talking to TK Davis from Gardner Webb about getting in the portal and coming to his school.  I also heard Jon Jon Milner was approached at nationals about going in the portal and talked money.  ISU has some big donors now, they used to not have this kind of money. Dresser is a salesman, he can squeeze everything out of these folks lol.
