Overperformed: Iowa

Underperformed: Cornell

I mainly lurk, rarely post, and hardly ever agree with anything you post. However, in this case, you're spot-on re: Cornell. Not sure what happened, but I hope it gets fixed soon.

The seeds and results don't lie.  Cornell is usually way more on at NCAAs.  Most puzzling to me is Meyer Shapiro's downward trajectory over the years.  He is so good but seems to fall apart in March.

Something was definitely off with the Cornell boys this weekend. Shapiro has had his share of medical issues, and I'm sure that's contributing. Still, a tip of the cap to a now 3x AA. While disappointing in the sense that it's not as high as his previous placements, it's still to be commended and a testament to how tough this tournament truly is.

did they actually? have to look to 24 NCST cuz id imagine they were worse, obviously not a great tournament all around but could be alot bleaker

I would put Michigan in the overperformed category.  Five of six qualifiers AA'd with each either matching or exceeding their seeds.  It is possible the Wolverines place 6th as a team, which would mean only one non-BIG team outscored them.

If Valencia beats wins the title by decision, how many points would that give Stanford?

Ohio State for underperformance of the decade.

come to think of it, were they even the biggest underperformance of this tournament? cornell did pretty dang poorly and looked dead in the third of nearly all their matches

IDK if it is "overperforming, because they were highly ranked all year, but Nebraska put it together again with VanDee, Lamer (!), and McDanel getting 7th, 4th, and 5th when they were all seeded in the teens.  Who honestly had VanDee placing at this year's 133 class, much less beating Byrd?  McDanel smashing Rademacher...Lamer's entire run...

Credit devino, cannon, mendez, gallagher, kharchla for wrestling to or above seed with xc for the 1st timers

Question bousakis, styles, geog, fishback, feldman not reaching seed or earning all American status again.

Difference between battling the cowboys for runner up or rounding out the top five and praying to edge out the hawkeyes for a trophy

Penn State Under performed.

Duke should have made the finals.

Mirasola should have made it to atleast the bloodround.

Davis should have made it to the blood round.

Messenbrink should have gotten bonus in the quarters.

Blaze should have won the consi finals.

Carl needs to learn how to coach. Epic failure on his part.

Van Dee and Lamer both did very well.

Rademacher needs to transfer to a school where he can eat and wrestle at 230. Kid was insanely good at full feed and 97kg.

After NDI and for a while afterwards, tOSU were ranked #1 by several organizations. As it stands, they need wins from both Davino and Mendez to get a trophy of any kind.

Did they flip him from Iowa St? That would be super notable

Congratulations to Iowa for beating the Ohio State in the team race. That was unexpected. As a matter of fact, for all the criticism leveled at Iowa over the season, much of it entirely justified, Iowa came into the NCAA tournament and wrestled like...Iowa. They were very tough on the backside, and while they didn't crown any champs, they DID have 7 wrestlers who earned All-American honors. That is what one would expect from Iowa: toughness. Brands keeps his job.
