Russian earthquake….interesting times
Caveira replied to WrestlingRasta's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8ku3fg6/ Transcript of you won’t click the link. It’s an ap journalist discussing how Hamas censorship works in western journalism 00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 The AP, as far as I know, 00:00:02 --> 00:00:05 I was the first staffer to erase information from a story 00:00:05 --> 00:00:07 because we were threatened by Hamas, 00:00:07 --> 00:00:09 which happened at the very end of, 00:00:09 --> 00:00:11 of 2008. We had a great reporter in Gaza, 00:00:11 --> 00:00:14 a Palestinian who had always been, um, 00:00:14 --> 00:00:15 really an excellent reporter. 00:00:15 --> 00:00:16 We had a detail in a story. 00:00:16 --> 00:00:18 The detail was a crucial one. 00:00:18 --> 00:00:20 It was that Hamas fighters were dressed as civilians 00:00:20 --> 00:00:23 and were being counted as civilians in the death toll, 00:00:24 --> 00:00:27 an important thing to know that went out in an AP story. 00:00:27 --> 00:00:29 The reporter called me a few hours later. 00:00:29 --> 00:00:31 It was clear that someone had spoken to him. 00:00:32 --> 00:00:34 And he told me, I was on the desk in Jerusalem, 00:00:34 --> 00:00:37 so I was kind of writing the story from the main bureau in Jerusalem. 00:00:37 --> 00:00:38 And he said, Mattie, 00:00:38 --> 00:00:40 you have to take that detail out of the story. 00:00:40 --> 00:00:42 And it was clear that someone had threatened him. 00:00:42 --> 00:00:43 I took the detail out of the story. 00:00:43 --> 00:00:47 I suggested to, to our editors that we note in an editor's note 00:00:47 --> 00:00:50 that we were now complying with Hamas censorship. 00:00:50 --> 00:00:53 I was overruled. And from that point in time, 00:00:53 --> 00:00:55 the AP, like all of its sister organizations, 00:00:55 --> 00:00:57 collaborates with Hamas censorship in Gaza. 00:00:57 --> 00:00:58 What does that mean? 00:00:59 --> 00:01:02 You'll see a lot of dead civilians and you won't see dead militants. 00:01:02 --> 00:01:05 You won't have a clear idea of what the Hamas military strategy is. And, 00:01:05 --> 00:01:08 and this is the kicker. The center Of the coverage will be a number, 00:01:08 --> 00:01:11 a casualty number that is provided to the press 00:01:11 --> 00:01:13 by something called the Gaza Health Ministry, 00:01:13 --> 00:01:17 which is Hamas. And we've been doing that since 2,008. 00:01:17 --> 00:01:18 And it's a way of basically 00:01:19 --> 00:01:22 settling the story before you get into any other information. 00:01:22 --> 00:01:23 Because when you put, you know, 00:01:23 --> 00:01:26 when you say 50,000, 50, 00:01:26 --> 00:01:29 50 Palestinians were killed and one Israeli on a given day, 00:01:29 --> 00:01:32 you know, it doesn't matter what else you say. 00:01:32 --> 00:01:34 The numbers kind of tell their own story. 00:01:34 --> 00:01:35 And it's a way of kind of 00:01:35 --> 00:01:36 settling the story 00:01:36 --> 00:01:38 with something that sounds like a concrete statistic. 00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 And the statistic is being, 00:01:41 --> 00:01:45 you know, given to us by one of the combatant sides. 00:01:45 --> 00:01:47 But because the reporters sympathize with that side, 00:01:47 --> 00:01:50 they're happy to, they're happy to play along. 00:01:50 --> 00:01:52 So since 2008, certainly since 2014, 00:01:52 --> 00:01:55 when we had another serious war in Gaza, 00:01:55 --> 00:01:58 the press has not been covering in Gaza. 00:01:58 --> 00:01:59 The press has been essentially 00:01:59 --> 00:02:04 an amplifier for one of the most poisonous ideologies on earth. 00:02:04 --> 00:02:09 Hamas has figured out how to make the press amplify its messaging 00:02:09 --> 00:02:11 rather than covering Hamas. 00:02:11 --> 00:02:13 There are no western reporters in Gaza. 00:02:13 --> 00:02:17 All of the reporters in Gaza are Palestinians. 00:02:17 --> 00:02:19 And those people fall into three categories. 00:02:19 --> 00:02:21 Some of them identify with Hamas. 00:02:21 --> 00:02:24 Some of them are intimidated by Hamas and won't cross Hamas, 00:02:24 --> 00:02:25 which makes a lot of sense. 00:02:25 --> 00:02:27 I wouldn't want to cross Hamas either. 00:02:27 --> 00:02:28 And the third category is people. 00:02:28 --> 00:02:30 Who actually belong to Hamas. 00:02:31 --> 00:02:34 That's where the information from Gaza is coming from. 00:02:34 --> 00:02:36 And if you're credulous, then of course, 00:02:36 --> 00:02:39 you're gonna get a story that makes Israel look pretty bad. -

Also, this isn’t actually GMA, it’s “GMA First Look,” which apparently is on at like 4AM. And the hosts didn’t really provide an opinion, they just interviewed some college professor that complained about it. @JimmySpeaks, can you share a link to it being on the Today show? I searched and can’t find it, although apparently there was an article (I was today years old when I learned the Today Show even had a website with articles). - Today

They've already murdered orders of magnitude more gazan kids than the total number of Israelis killed, with many more starving to death every single day. Yes, hamas is bad and does bad things. That doesn't give them the right to do whatever they want though. -

Showing more ignorance. A political party can nominate whoever and however they want. Nobody outside the psrty is entitled to any "say." Biden was a vegetable so they needed a replacement and there wasn't time to re- do the primaries. It's that simple. -

I don't see how being a lifelong cheat (well documented), and convicted felon who also was found responsible for rape/sexual assault, is on the same level as dropping out of a political election. But you have a smooth brain and a 75 IQ so it's not surprising. -

Thanks for the YT link and mat assignments @okokzach! Turner won 3-2 against someone from Ukraine Vito against Dzhelep of Ukraine. Vito opened it up with a nice takedown about a minute in. Then gave up 4 after being in deep on a shot and kinda got pancaked. In the second he got another takedown and they gave him 4 for feet to back which I thought the exposure was questionable, Ukraine challenged but they kept it, so 7-4. Then Ukraine got a takedown, 7-6. Another TD for Vito, 9-6 and that was the final. This match started at about 1:34 in the mat 2 video I think -
what really sucks about that is I think Cubans have some of the best genetics in the world. Their ability to compete in combat sports at a high level well into their late 30's and 40's is incredible to me. There was a rumor that reineri andreau was trying to get Us citizenship to try and compete at 57kg which would be interesting hes tough.

Hamit loses by tech to Vasyl Mykhailov of Ukraine 10-0. Didn't look like the same Hamiti from the Russia dual, he looked slow. Mykhailov is good though. He has two Senior Worlds bronzes. Ruiz is cruising in his match against Codei Khawaja of Serbia. Bout board here: https://www.sportzona.pl/app/events/view/wrestling/6884 -
Well we had a lot of different coaches over the years. Rasoul Khadem couldn't produce many golds either. 2012 - 1 ( ghasemi due to Taymazov and the Georgian failing the drug test) 2013 - 2 ( rahimi and yazdani) - 2014 0 golds - 2015 - 0 golds - 2016 rio - 1 gold ( yazdani) - 2017 - 1 gold and only 1 medal total ( yazdani) 2018 - 0. I know he wasn't technically the head coach in 2017 as it was Talai but he was obviously still pulling the strings and Talaei was a highly accomplished wrestler also.

Starting now, Hamiti will be first up on Mat 3, followed by Simon Ruiz. I think Vito will be on Mat 2 but not sure when yet Also Plott finished in 3rd yesterday -
I don’t think Taghavi really acts as a weight class coach for the lightweights in the national team. You can kinda tell from what Ehsan Lashgari said after leaving the coaching staff - he said not only were they completely left out of the decision-making process, but they weren’t even informed about the head coach’s plans, let alone being consulted. Sure, Lashgari was brought in by Kaveh, but I don’t see any difference between Kaveh and Dorostkar in that regard. A real weight class coach should analyze the main rivals and focus entirely on them and his own guy. Taghavi, to me, seems more like a training coach than a tactical one. That said, I do agree with a lot of your points overall. Actually, just today I was thinking - it might not be a bad idea for the federation to start a college-style league in Iran and organize dual meets between Iran and the U.S. Like, have Tehran’s team wrestle a team from one of the U.S. states. They could invite American college teams to come to Iran. It’d be exciting for fans, and it might have some positive side effects beyond wrestling too...
-
I think they will also struggle to field a competitive greco team too in the near future unfortunately. Without Mijain Lopez their team is very weak tbh. I don't think Rosillo, Pino or Orta are going to be world championship contenders anymore in their respective weight classes and they don't have any promising new crop coming in either.
-
I wish they didn't have Dorostkar as the head coach. Why can't Dabir just let his ego go and pick Reza Yazdani as the head coach of the national team? Our biggest problem in freestyle is the stubbornness of the top brass as opposed to investment and talent. If Reza Yazdani was the head coach of this team I am very confident we would have won at least 2 of the finals in Paris last year. Dorostkar isn't qualified to be the head coach of Iran's junior guys let alone our senior team.

GreatWhiteNorth replied to WrestlingRasta's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Hmmm... interesting. Let's go through this... If South Korea had attacked North Korea by crossing the border at multiple locations, killing thousands of NK's in ambushes and taking a couple thousand or so NK's back to SK as hostages for protection/negotiation. I would certainly expect NK to retaliate. They rightly should. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who thinks NK wouldn't or shouldn't retaliate needs their head examined. If NK retaliates with zeal - that should not be judged by outsiders. This is a personal conflict between countries with a deep past. In fighting fire with fire, things will very likely get out of hand one way or another. This was the gamble SK took to begin with - there was no guarantee they would be successful, or that a counter offensive wouldn't be swift and merciless. Now here we sit. NK's counter was swift, merciless, and even more powerful than anyone expected. SK still has the hostages they've kidnapped and continue to refuse to release them - even though the position they've chosen leaves them with the people of their country starving to death. Can the starvation be ended - yes, to at least some degree, by releasing the hostages. Can the conflict be ended - yes, to at least some degree, by releasing the hostages. But the conflict still continues? - yes, because SK refuses to release the hostages. If SK were to release all the hostages? - that would be a step toward the resolution and end of the conflict. I'm unconvinced that if NK had done something like this, that it would be any different than it is right now. The "atrocity" is far more about what was done on 10/7 and the currently unreleased hostages than the response to both these things. The response was swift, powerful, merciless, and unending. If I were a hostage, that is exactly what I would want. If I were a hostage's family member, it is exactly what I would demand. If I were either, I'd expect nothing less. -
You seem to be solidly locked into your chosen political party over what's good for the people of this country. Everything about you as a poster sucks donkey dick... but at least you have conviction. The donkeys appreciate that.
